Techniques and methods of self-hypnosis for self-confidence

Self-hypnosis is a way to achieve what you want

The human brain is the most powerful “supercomputer” on the planet. He started wars, built cities and pulled humanity out of the Stone Age. What is the best of all the capabilities of our brain? It can be programmed using autosuggestion.

Each of us has used self-hypnosis at some point in our lives. The problem is that most people use this technique to focus on negative things rather than positive ones. For example, we say, “I'm tired,” “I'm worthless,” and then wonder why we actually feel that way.

You can learn to program your consciousness to achieve your goals in our online program “Mental Self-Regulation”. There you will learn effective techniques to combat stress, anxiety and fear, apathy, difficulty taking the first step and procrastination. But for now, let's try to learn how to program ourselves in the simplest way.

What is self-hypnosis

In fact, people use the power of self-hypnosis every day. And quite often this happens completely unconsciously. So, people, by their own or someone else’s will, tune in to illness, poverty, negativity, losses, and then wonder why there are so many bad events in their lives?

You can deny the existence of self-hypnosis and active self-hypnosis, attribute it to excessive optimism, pessimism, an invention of psychiatrists or obsessive mania. This will not change anything at all in your life, because scientists have long proven the existence of this powerful force, which has a huge impact on us.

Self-hypnosis is the work of human consciousness, which is aimed at itself and is reinforced through visual images. Thanks to this work, certain subconscious attitudes are formed. In this case, one of the areas of the cerebral cortex dominates, and the remaining areas are in an inhibited state.

To perform self-hypnosis, there is no need to fall into a trance. It is quite enough to provide yourself with a calm, secluded environment, to fully concentrate on a specific goal, achieving relaxation or, conversely, receiving a strong emotional shock.

When you say your intention many times, your brain will be “programmed” for it, and your thought will soon become a reality.

Self-hypnosis should not be confused with willpower. Willpower is the conscious effort to perform some action. It is common for any effort to encounter resistance from our psyche.

The work of self-hypnosis is carried out through feelings, emotions, imagination, while attitudes penetrate deep into our consciousness and are expressed at the physical level in the form of certain abilities, sensations or actions.

Stages of achieving confidence

  1. Posture. Straightened shoulders, a raised head, a smile, a friendly look, a clear expression of one’s own thoughts - all this characterizes a person who knows his own worth and believes in his success.
  2. Professional skills. Few people are true experts in many fields at the same time, but absolutely anyone can become a master in a certain field.
  3. Autotraining. Every day, several times you need to say any formula that is optimal for you and aimed at improving self-esteem.
  4. Positive attitude. Change the standard “I can’t” to “I will succeed!” Said several times, this phrase will no longer provoke amazement, but will contribute to the development of tactics for subsequent behavior.

For what purpose can it be used?

Self-hypnosis has enormous potential. With the right direction, these opportunities allow you to perform real miracles, changing a person’s personality and physical potential for the better, improving his emotional state and allowing him to achieve his goals. But self-hypnosis can be both positive and negative. Used unconsciously in our lives, it can have a bad effect on us.

This is how the mechanism of self-hypnosis is often introduced into your consciousness by the words of others. Of course, we cannot attribute our failures and mistakes entirely to other people, since until we internally approve of other people’s attitudes, they will not be able to translate into reality.

But just in case, you should stay away from people who convince you that you are nothing of yourself, that you cannot achieve something or learn something. They block the channel for you to achieve what you want and program your personality to be completely negative.

Using self-hypnosis for self-confidence and success, you will protect yourself from aggressive external influences and gain complete control over your life. Do not forget that your life is a real miracle, you are a unique and inimitable person. You need to instill this in yourself, allow yourself to become happy, loved, rich, successful - choose the one you need from this list. And an organism programmed for success will be able to cope with the task within the limits of the capabilities it possesses.

Eliminate any doubts from your subconscious by performing self-hypnosis. After all, it is sincere faith that plays a huge role in this process. When formulating what we want, we are not talking about reality, but only about the desired result, but this is done in real time. Our consciousness does not understand such concepts as “yesterday” or “tomorrow”; it works only on the principle of “here and now”.

Signs of low self-esteem

Conscious and unconscious self-suggestion

Most people use negative self-hypnosis without realizing it. Having read about some unpleasant facts or terrible events, they tend to unconsciously attract them into their lives.

A very good example is a person reading a medical reference book that describes some terrible disease. He begins to look for the same symptoms that are indicated in the book, and having found them, in reality he very soon falls ill. The power of self-hypnosis is so strong that a person can convince himself that he is suffering from incurable pathologies, and the matter ends in death.

There is another name for consciously programming oneself for failures and troubles - pessimism. If these are not the best times in your life, inspire yourself that very soon all the bad things will go away, and only good events await you ahead, all your dreams and desires will easily come true. For your subconscious, such an attitude will be a straw for a drowning man; it will happily pick it up, and unexpectedly strength will appear that will help you cope with stress and troubles.

The right attitude

First of all, you need to get rid of doubts:

  • Do you think people would bother with nonsense, write books about this method and create trainings? Why do you need professional psychologists who can teach you to live comfortably? Think about it, and when you get convincing arguments, you can properly set yourself up for future work;
  • Do not listen to the opinions of others - make a decision yourself; if you are not supported, you should not advertise your occupation;
  • Believe in a positive result - keep in mind that without this component it is difficult to achieve results.

Self-hypnosis technique

There are a huge number of self-hypnosis techniques. We invite you to familiarize yourself with the most popular of them.

  • Affirmation is a self-hypnosis technique that involves repeating certain formulas silently or out loud. Examples of such formulas: “I am happy”, “I am healthy”, “I have a good job”, “I have an excellent caring and loving husband” and so on. Create affirmations based on your needs and repeat them to yourself regularly. Then, over time, all the negative attitudes of your subconscious will be replaced by positive ones.
  • Visualization – This involves mentally imagining and experiencing events that you imagine. The main point of this technique is that you imagine the situation as much as possible and begin to live in it. The effect of this method is due to the fact that our mind is not able to distinguish real events from imaginary ones. When you visualize something, your mind believes that it is actually happening.
  • Self-hypnosis E. Coue. You will need to take a comfortable position (lying or sitting), close your eyes, relax and whisper a certain self-hypnosis formula several times. It is important that it be simple, consist of a couple of words, for example, “I am happy.” Repeat sessions of this method for three to four minutes several times a day for several weeks.

Exercises

There are exercises that can help instill self-confidence:

  1. A state of confidence. You need to imagine an incident from life that gave you incredible self-confidence, when you were overwhelmed with feelings of delight and pride in yourself. It doesn't matter what event triggered the confidence. The main thing is to relive these sensations and try to remember them. Perform the exercise 2-3 times a week.
  2. Walk of confidence. The exercise consists of two parts. You need to turn on the music. First you need to relax, feel your body, perform chaotic movements. After 3-4 minutes, the first part of the exercise itself begins. You should turn on sad music and imagine yourself as an insecure person. You can imitate a gait and perform awkward movements. Then positive music is turned on: transformation begins. A person must present himself as confident. He must change his gait and movements. You need to feel how every cell is filled with energy and confidence in your abilities. The session is performed once or twice a week.
  3. Confident breathing. You can perform the exercise with both open and closed eyes. You need to imagine that the air is filled with confidence and the more a person breathes, the more it feels. You need to breathe deeply, get enough air. The session lasts 3-4 minutes and is performed once a day. Gradually the duration of classes is increased to 15 minutes.
  4. An image of confidence. To do this, you need to prepare a piece of paper, pencils, markers.
    You should imagine an image of confidence, what it looks like, how a person imagines it. It can be anything. You need to draw the presented image and color it. It doesn't matter how well a person draws. The main thing is the feeling in the process. Perform the exercise an unlimited number of times.

Self-confidence - practical exercises:

Who introduces negative attitudes into our consciousness?

No one is born with negative attitudes and mental images, so where do they come from? Why do people start thinking that they are losers?

There are several main sources of negative suggestion:

  1. Parents. Many parents spoil the psyche of their children, and without meaning to. The main mistake that mom and dad make is comparing their child with their peers not in his favor. There are also constant reproaches for “wrong” actions; they often take out their own disappointment on the child.

All this is deposited in the subconscious and makes a person feel inferior, doubt his own strengths and capabilities. Negative attitudes from childhood are transformed into adulthood, and it becomes difficult for a person to make decisions and take responsibility for his actions.

  1. Negative past experiences . Bad experiences in the past also contribute to the formation of a negative attitude towards what they were associated with. The image is fixed in the subconscious that if nothing worked out the first time, then all subsequent ones will also be unsuccessful.

For example, in a relationship you encountered betrayal, which resulted in severe psychological trauma. As time passed, you moved away from the experience and entered into a new relationship. But at the subconscious level, you are now trying to convict all your new boyfriends of cheating. You suffer from doubts, even if they are groundless, you create scenes of jealousy, all the time waiting for life to throw you another trick.

Examples of affirmations

  1. I perceive my own individuality normally.
  2. I like everything about myself. I love every element of my body and my own soul.
  3. I give myself the opportunity to follow my own path and make my dreams come true.
  4. I deserve better and I give myself permission to have better.
  5. I see and improve my strengths.
  6. I feel confident.
  7. I am a confident person who easily finds the right solution.
  8. I have freedom of action. I understand that I will achieve everything I planned.
  9. I have the right to live my own life and follow my destiny.
  10. I love getting out of my comfort zone and pursuing new things.
  11. I perceive changes flexibly and enjoy them; I notice the grain of success in everything.
  12. My talents are valuable to me.
  13. I believe in myself! I realize that I can become happier.
  14. I control my own future!
  15. I feel confident in any environment.
  16. I am responsible for my own world.
  17. I am confident in my goals and plan to achieve them.
  18. I understand that the Universe cares about me.
  19. I am calm and confident in any company.
  20. I express my own opinion with confidence.
  21. I improve confidence and vitality.
  22. I have a positive perception of my own body.
  23. My confidence is within reasonable limits.
  24. I feel love and other positive emotions about myself.
  25. I'm becoming more confident every day.

These are basic affirmations that promote self-confidence.

How to get rid of self-hypnosis

You have already realized that self-hypnosis can greatly poison our lives; it increases our sensitivity to the words of others and makes us more vulnerable. The positive thing is that this problem can be resolved. The people around you are not to blame for your troubles; their key lies in you.

  1. You need to accept your problems. Find the true source of all your misfortunes. To do this, you need to enter a state of altered consciousness, although sometimes the problem is found when replaying past events. Find the starting point when a negative image has taken hold in your head, making you doubt your own abilities.
  2. Change your memories. When the starting point that provoked the negative memory is found, it is necessary to imagine the situation that happened, but only this way. so that it turns into a positive one. Think about how it would be different if you or other people acted differently. Fill yourself with these positive feelings, believe in the new role, so that a new, changed, positive situation is deposited in your subconscious.

This is how you need to work on all the negative memories until you replace them all with positive emotions.

But if a situation in the past has caused you severe pain and disappointment that you are unable to cope with on your own, it is better to seek help from a professional. The effect of self-hypnosis is a very serious thing that can greatly change your life. Therefore, do not be afraid to trust a specialist who, using effective techniques, will help you achieve a comfortable and harmonious state.

Hypnosis to Increase Self-Esteem: Benefits of Hypnosis

Quickly gaining adequate self-esteem and self-confidence is possible during hypnotherapy sessions. Hypnosis is the best choice for those people who do not have enough vitality to carry out transformations of their own personality.

The effectiveness of hypnosis is due to the ability of hypnotherapy methods to penetrate into a hidden layer of the psyche - the subconscious, which stores genuine information about the factors that influenced a person’s self-esteem. In a state of hypnotic trance, vigilant control of consciousness is temporarily eliminated, which opens access to the subconscious sphere of the psyche. After identifying the source of the problem, the doctor helps change destructive attitudes to positive functional ideas. Trance provides a high level of perception to verbal instructions coming from the hypnologist. Therefore, the suggested attitudes are perceived by the client as their own thoughts. Correcting stereotypes allows a person to look at her own personality from an objective point of view.

After hypnosis sessions a person:

  • will be able to be honest and frank with himself;
  • will gain self-esteem;
  • will objectively evaluate character traits and personality traits;
  • accept your individuality unconditionally;
  • will become confident in his own abilities;
  • will begin to think positively;
  • will cease to be mistaken about the characteristics of his character;
  • will be able to overcome existing difficulties without fear and anxiety;
  • stop adjusting to other people's expectations;
  • will feel the vitality to achieve goals.

A special advantage of hypnosis is the comfort and painlessness of the procedures. Hypnotherapy techniques do not imply exerting a moral influence on a person. A person transforms his inner world only in those aspects that he considers acceptable and necessary.

Why doesn’t self-hypnosis work to develop self-confidence?

Why do some people say out loud or to themselves, “I am a brave person,” or something similar, and they develop confidence by leaps and bounds? Why does repeating similar phrases 50,000 times for others not lead to results at all or is the result temporary?

What is behind such different results with seemingly approximately the same labor costs, techniques and efforts to develop charisma?

The fact is that the technique of self-hypnosis is deceptively simple. It would seem that repeat the same thing and character qualities will develop, luck, money, women/men, etc. will be attracted. But if everything were too simple, then everyone would have long ago changed their character to a better one.

And if the changes reach 10 percent, it means that there are subtleties that must be paid attention to.

Today I will talk about some of the subtleties of self-hypnosis that you must definitely use when working on yourself. Use them when working on yourself and the effect of self-hypnosis will increase many times, or even tens of times.

First, you can’t put pressure on yourself.

Self-hypnosis and self-pressure are completely different things. I'd say they're diametrically opposed .

And if you press yourself with the words “I am confident in myself. Today I will do this and that,” then perhaps there will be some effect, perhaps it will be the opposite, but this has nothing to do with self-hypnosis.

Self-hypnosis is precisely gentle and gradual persuasion, convincing your subconscious of something new. Something like today you tell yourself that it would be great to sometimes act bolder than usual with someone. Then you would communicate more, you would be treated with respect. After a couple of weeks of such reflection, you may think that with this person and this one (who is not too powerful and treats you well), you could behave more boldly. Then you try out the basic techniques of bold behavior on these acquaintances and begin to think about its further development. This is how you need to work with self-hypnosis and the subconscious.

But as soon as you begin to put pressure on it (the subconscious), it “gets scared” and tries to remain on old, proven methods of behavior. Maybe your shy behavior seems completely ineffective to you, but you survived, which means that the subconscious considers it good and will not simply exchange it for new behavior.

Therefore, I will repeat it again. Everything needs to be done softer, often more slowly, gradually, from simple to complex. These are general principles of the human brain, which are fully applicable to the development of any quality of character.

If we return closer to the topic, then what to do specifically.

First of all, don't try to put pressure on yourself today..

Do not try to use self-hypnosis to take any steps today or tomorrow that make you panic or fear. If, for example, you need to say something unpleasant to someone tomorrow, if tomorrow you have a public speech or something similar, then self-hypnosis is not the right method here. Try a little role-playing game in an empty room. I talk about this in more detail in the course “How to become more confident in yourself in 3 months.”

Secondly, for many, standard self-hypnosis phrases need to be redone.

For example, you say a self-hypnosis phrase: “I am a brave person” or something similar. (Women/men like me, I behave boldly with someone, I attract success, etc.) These may be several similar phrases, but it is not so important.

For many self-conscious people, simply uttering such phrases leads to fear, panic and tension..

I repeat that confident behavior that is unrealistic for a person, which needs to be demonstrated very soon, causes fear. But simply uttering non-binding words about courage or some other success does not lead to anything.

And it is clear that if a person experiences fear and panic, then it is stupid to talk about any effectiveness of self-hypnosis and the development of charisma. Phrases will “bounce” from the subconscious, without penetrating even a micron thickness into its depths.

Yes, someday, after some time, such a person will be able to calmly pronounce any self-hypnosis phrases without any tension, and they will work, but today they do not work.

What to do?

The answer is obvious. It is necessary to remake phrases so that they do not cause internal resistance or fear .

How to do it?

The first option is that instead of talking about confidence as a fait accompli (I am brave), we need to talk about confidence as one of the possible and desirable options.

Eg:

- It would be great to become a brave person.

- I would like to become brave.

The second option is to write phrases where confidence will be temporary.

Eg:

— I like it when I behave boldly sometimes.

- Sometimes I behave boldly and this will happen more and more often.

- After some time, I will behave confidently.

A third option is to use phrases that indicate that high self-esteem or another desirable character quality is demonstrated in certain people or in certain situations..

Eg,

— Some women/men like me.

— Some people perceive me as a brave person.

— In some area of knowledge, I am a confident person.

Accordingly, the task is simple. Compose several self-hypnosis phrases using the above techniques. Say these phrases out loud. Try several options and leave 2-3 phrases to start with and try to work with them for at least a week.

Through self-hypnosis you try to become a different person. To do this, of course, the self-hypnosis phrases must differ from what you really are. If we talk about the development of self-esteem, then in this new image we will behave better than now, which is obvious.

On the other hand, it’s bad if this image is completely unrealistic. It is useless to imagine yourself as a superman if in real life you don’t have the courage to simply say hello to a stranger and start a conversation about the weather.

It is useless to say that all women/men almost dream of communicating with you, when in fact you have difficulties both in getting to know each other and in minimal communication. (Caused, of course, by uncertainty, and not by other reasons. Read about other reasons and how to eliminate them in my books)

Therefore, in phrases of self-hypnosis you must be bolder than in real life, of course, otherwise what is the use of them. But at the same time, moderation must be observed.

And if you are just starting self-hypnosis, if you have little or no success in some area of your life, then use “lightweight” self-hypnosis phrases, with the help of which you can definitely achieve initial progress, and then you can use ordinary phrases for self-hypnosis.

With the help of the above techniques, you can make a phrase that will not scare you for sure. The main thing is not to overdo it with “lightening” phrases. Still, they should pull you forward, that is, they should reflect not your current real state, but your desired one, that is, in them you should be a little better than you are now.

The second is the lack of models of confident behavior among many students.

One person says the phrase: “I am confident in myself,” and dozens and hundreds of images (essentially, samples) of confident behavior begin to emerge before his imagination. It was he who behaved confidently in some situation. Here are a lot of his acquaintances with confident behavior. His parents behaved confidently in this or that situation.

And for such a person, the repetition of self-hypnosis phrases is essentially just a trigger in the chain of his associations. Of course, such self-hypnosis will work.

Now let's take the exact opposite example.

An insecure person often does not even have in his memory examples of confident behavior as his own (which, by definition, is practical), so he has few such images and behavior of others. Parents are often either insecure or too manipulatively domineering (which is not always confidence). Friends/girlfriends of an insecure person are also often not models of confidence.

Therefore, when such a person begins to say: “I am confident in myself” or something similar, then, of course, no images begin to swirl in his imagination or feelings. Or if they do, such images are too short, incomplete, fragmentary.

There is almost as much sense in such self-hypnosis as in uttering some meaningless phrase like: “Bur boom tram.” Behind this phrase the person does not have any image or other words of a pattern of behavior. It's just noise.

Likewise, the phrases: “I am confident in myself” and similar ones for many who practice are nothing more than noise. There are no specifics behind them. They don't make sense .

What to do?

The answer is obvious. It is necessary to ensure that behind the words there are concrete examples of confident behavior.

There are two ways to do this.

The first way is to change the phrases to those that are more understandable to you and your subconscious.

Add more specificity to your phrases. Break a single behavior into several simpler techniques and use them for self-hypnosis.

For example, what is assertive behavior? If we take external aspects, then this is a direct look, quite loud speech, a clear position on many life issues, straight posture, etc.

Here I will not describe in detail what confident behavior needs to be broken down into, since that is not the point. You must break any behavior into parts and take them as a basis for self-hypnosis. That is, the list of phrases for self-hypnosis should look something like this:

“I look people straight in the eye.”

- I have a straight posture.

“I speak loud enough so that anyone can hear me.”

“I have an opinion on all important issues in my life, I express it and defend it.

I think the principle is clear.

The second way is to start accumulating patterns of confident behavior.

Everything here is also quite simple. In order for the associations we need with bold behavior to arise during self-hypnosis, we must gradually accumulate and repeat these patterns of behavior.

The easiest way, of course, is to write down some successful behavior in a notebook and periodically re-read it.

This method is quite effective. Just write down the brave behavior that you liked and try to play it out in your mind. It doesn’t matter whether this behavior is your own or someone else’s, but someone else’s behavior should “lay down” on your personality and the degree of development of confidence today. Otherwise, such an image will do more harm than good. We already talked about this a little higher.

So, we have briefly discussed two very important reasons why the influence of such a seemingly elementary technique of changing one’s personality as self-hypnosis may either not work at all or significantly reduce its effectiveness.

There may be not two, but a dozen such reasons, but you can read about others in the articles in the section, for example in the article “Self-hypnosis and how it works” or in my book “How to become more confident in yourself in 3 months . (The course also covers other methods of developing self-confidence)
