How to deal with chronic fatigue and depression

Those suffering from depression are forced to constantly struggle with chronic fatigue. Often, when depressed, it becomes difficult for a person to carry out his daily duties. This occurs due to an influx of negative thoughts, due to a feeling of helplessness and despair, as well as for physiological reasons. Millions of people suffer from this disorder. Depression is currently the most common illness worldwide.

Stress

While emotional distress can manifest itself through a variety of symptoms, many suffer from chronic fatigue. It is believed that about 90% of all those suffering from depression also experience physical fatigue. And one of its causes is overvoltage. It's no secret that depressed people react much more strongly to stress. This further aggravates depression. According to research, those who suffer from depression have elevated levels of the hormone cortisol. On the contrary, serotonin and dopamine, which are responsible for the subjective feeling of well-being, are reduced.

That is why living a full life in the modern world is an impossible task for those suffering from depression. Those who are on the verge of psychological burnout are advised to regularly set aside time for rest. Psychologists also advise engaging in various practices that help get rid of stress, such as yoga.

Main symptoms of CFS

  1. A state of fatigue and weakness that persists for more than six months.
  2. Fever
  3. Muscle weakness
  4. Insomnia
  5. Migrating joint pain
  6. Enlarged cervical lymph nodes
  7. Neuropsychiatric disorders: increased sensitivity to bright light, forgetfulness, lethargy, irritability, decreased mental performance and inability to concentrate
  8. Severe depression

Iron deficiency

One of the main reasons that provokes the feeling of lethargy, irritability, and weakness is anemia. A person has trouble concentrating, and it becomes more difficult for him to do mental work. To get rid of iron deficiency, you need to adjust your diet: eat beans, green vegetables, nuts. Nutritionists recommend using them in combination with foods containing vitamin C, since in this case iron is absorbed better.

This disorder is very common in women experiencing heavy menstrual cycles. It is easy to detect the disorder using a simple blood test. You can overcome low hemoglobin levels with the help of special iron-containing vitamins, as well as eating meat, liver, and greens.

Treatment of asthenic depression with medications

The difficulty lies in the reluctance of patients to change their usual lifestyle, carefully follow the doctor’s orders, and follow the recommended regimen.

Complex treatment is prescribed, the course can last up to six months. They use tranquilizers, adaptogens, vitamins, mineral complexes, and, if necessary, antibacterial drugs.

Physiotherapeutic procedures help speed up the recovery of the body.

Drug treatment

Asthenia requires a combination of drug treatment and psychotherapy. The following medications are prescribed:

  • stimulating antidepressants: Anafranil, Tsipramil, Prozac (to eliminate anxiety, apathy, lethargy, normalize mood and increase appetite);
  • sedative antidepressants: Azafen, Ludiomil, Amitriptyline (relieve unnecessary anxiety, help restore sleep);
  • in mild cases, it is sufficient to use sedatives based on medicinal herbs (motherwort, St. John's wort).

Timely treatment allows you to quickly cope with the disease and gives a favorable prognosis.

Poor sleep

A person strives to do everything, and therefore begins to save on sleep. And it always backfires on him. Chronic lack of sleep leads to increased fatigue and decreased productivity. Therefore, those who want to get rid of constant fatigue should remember the axiom: sleep is sacred. A few hours before a night's rest, you need to avoid drinking coffee and settle into a calm mood. You can read a good book or take a bath.

Unreasonable anxiety

Often, depressed people may suffer from pointless worry that does not go away over time. Negative thoughts associated with current life circumstances absorb a large amount of mental energy. The background anxiety that accompanies a person throughout his life can, in fact, be internalized in society. Everyone grows up surrounded by people - parents, educators, nannies and teachers.

Each of these people had their own experience and their own destiny. These people wanted the children not to “repeat” their mistakes, wanting to warn them. Adults could not hide their own anxiety, which led to its internalization from an early age. When a person lives for decades in anticipation of danger, it exhausts him and leads to chronic fatigue syndrome. Even a small load becomes heavy for him.

To get rid of constant anxiety, it is not enough to practice relaxation techniques. It is necessary to free the unconscious from those ideas that cause causeless anxiety. Art therapy techniques are very helpful in this regard. You can do them either with a psychologist or on your own. For example, you can throw out the accumulated feeling of anxiety on a piece of paper using brushes and paints.

Melatonin: if you are exposed to light during the day

Melatonin is produced by the pineal gland of the brain, as well as other tissues of our body, which send a signal to cells to prepare for sleep. This happens naturally as darkness falls, but we can prevent it from happening if we don't get enough light at the right time of day.

Melatonin cannot be considered a sleep hormone because it does not directly induce sleep. However, it can safely be called the hormone of good sleep: it improves the quality of night's rest, since it helps create the most suitable conditions for this in the body.

The highest concentration of melatonin is observed in children, and with age it gradually decreases. Melatonin is associated with youth and vitality, but its amount declines over the years. Is this supposed to happen or is it our own fault because we regularly disrupt our sleep cycles?

Yes, melatonin concentrations decrease with age, but if you improve your sleep quality, you won't face a sharp drop. Remember that the production of this hormone is highly dependent on lighting. Sunlight contains a natural spectrum that is needed to regulate the melatonin production cycle. Simply put, if you spend a lot of time in the light during the day, consider the magic formula for good sleep almost in your pocket.

Guilt

When a person is constantly responsible for everyone, this leaves a serious imprint on his inner sense of well-being. He has to think about how his relationship with his spouse is developing; how the parents feel; How are things going at work? The experience of guilt entails mental overload and, as a result, chronic fatigue. To get rid of guilt, it is useful to learn to internally let go of people and situations. Regular meditation practice can be an indispensable help in this regard.

Self-help for depression, chronic fatigue, VSD: five most important rules

The prevalence of nervous system disorders is currently quite high. At least 20% of the population are susceptible to vegetative-vascular dystonia (VSD), depression, chronic fatigue, sleep disorders, are painfully sensitive to changes in weather conditions, have an increased level of anxiety or suffer from headaches. These disorders are classified as “borderline disorders” and are officially considered harmless. However, any symptom from the above list can significantly worsen the quality of life and, in addition, can serve as the debut of more severe diseases.

At the same time, both the detection of borderline disorders and the quality of medical care are too little in line with the severity of the problems existing in this area.

All this forces people with such disorders to turn to regional and republican medical centers or seek help from all kinds of “healers” and “removers of damage.” Such searches and useless ordeals could be avoided if you have knowledge about the available means with which you can independently eliminate many nervous or psychological disorders.

Rule #1

Treatment of nervous disorders is impossible without eliminating the causes that caused them, obvious or hidden.
Everything else is a simulation of treatment. Many quite ordinary diseases of internal organs have been proven to disrupt the activity of the central and autonomic nervous systems and thus serve as a direct cause of depression, VSD and many other disorders. The impaired activity of internal organs and the dysfunction of the nervous system caused by it has been the subject of serious scientific research and publications.

Domestic neurologist N.K. Bogolepov, his students and followers (Yu. S. Martynov, 1964-1978; E. V. Malkova, 1969; L. S. Egorova, 1970; L. O. Badalyan, 1975; L. G Erokhina, 1974; I. A. Suchkova, 1977; Yu. I. Koshelev, 1976, etc.) it was shown that not only pronounced, but even compensated and subcompensated dysfunction of internal organs is manifested by neuropsychic disorders (asthenic syndrome , vegetative-vascular dystonia, depression, etc.)

Let us cite, for example, an excerpt from a collective work under the leadership of prof. Yu.S. Martynova: “In the event of disruption of the functions of organs that ensure a normal state of homeostasis, the resulting disturbances, despite the presence of the blood-brain barrier, will spread to the cerebrospinal fluid, interstitial fluid and brain parenchyma.

With sufficient severity and duration of these shifts, the development of some secondary neuropsychic disorders is almost inevitable.” It is worth adding that, regardless of the research of domestic science, completely similar ideas have developed in Chinese medicine, and as key, central concepts.

It becomes clear that only the restoration of the normal functioning of the internal organs can eliminate the “complications” they cause in the nervous system (of course, this rule applies until irreversible structural changes occur in the brain structures)

At the same time, this immutable principle is used in practice much less often than it deserves. One of the main reasons for this is the widespread dissemination of too primitive and erroneous views on the purpose and functions of these organs. Unfortunately, the carriers of such primitivism are often the health workers themselves.

Let us consider, as an illustration, diseases of only one organ - the gallbladder - and see what actually stands behind the usual diagnoses like “stagnation of bile”, “chronic acalculous cholecystitis” or “deformed gallbladder” (hereinafter - based on materials from the book A. Tornova "Anatomy of vital force. Secrets of restoring the nervous system"):

If the gallbladder contracts sluggishly, not completely, then, as a rule, stagnation of bile occurs in it. Bile, in this case, soon acquires toxic properties. No more, no less - this means that the body and cells of the nervous system will regularly undergo autointoxication (self-poisoning)

At one time, for example, experiments were carried out when experimental pigeons were injected with bile taken from people with congestion in the gallbladder. In all experimental individuals this caused death within 2-3 hours. At the same time, healthy bile, administered to birds in the same quantities, did not cause them any harm (Prof. Paunescu-Podeanu)

Also, due to weak contractions of the gallbladder, there is a lack of bile for digestion in the intestines, which disrupts the absorption of a number of essential substances and reduces the formation of steroid (sex) hormones. Let us add that normal outflow of bile is an indispensable condition for the proper functioning of the liver (!)

If the gallbladder is deformed from birth (for example, an “hourglass” type constriction is often observed in it), then almost always (in 87% of cases) this causes a violation of the outflow of bile and all its negative consequences.

If there is a chronic (smoldering) inflammatory process in the gallbladder, then in this case the bile also changes its physicochemical properties. From this it becomes more and more aggressive, causing irritation of the tissues and nerve nodes of the gallbladder.

But, since these nerve nodes are connected to the corresponding structures of the brain, the overall balance of the autonomic nervous system ultimately suffers. A clear confirmation that inflammation of the gallbladder changes bile for the worse is that its ability to destroy microorganisms parasitizing in it, and above all Giardia, is lost.

At the same time, it is known that the waste products of Giardia have a pronounced negative effect on the nervous system, and in themselves cause rapid fatigue, decreased performance and emotional tone. Actually, that’s why the discoverer of this microorganism, D. F. Lambl, called it “a parasite of melancholy and sadness.”

It has also been established (Ya.V. Ganitkevin) that bile and its constituent bile acids have a specific, inhibitory effect on the nerve cells of the brain. This depression always occurs when there is an excess of bile in the body (with congestion in the gallbladder, this is exactly what happens).

Medical works describe the very tangible consequences of the gallbladder diseases described above for various organs and systems of the body. In particular, from the nervous system the following is noted: “This manifests itself as depression, irritability, anxiety, suspiciousness, isolation, that is, the so-called “bilious character” is formed (see, for example: Marinich T.V.

“Chronic diseases of the biliary tract,” 2004) Physical and nervous asthenia (weakness, fatigue), emotional instability is often observed, often starting in childhood.

To complete the picture, we note that in addition to nervous disorders, chronic cholecystitis can also cause:

  • Gastrointestinal disorders;
  • Problems of the cardiovascular system (the so-called “cardiac mask” of chronic cholecystitis);
  • Allergies, fluctuating pulse, pain in muscles, joints, (“rheumatic mask”) and a number of other symptoms.

In general, information of this kind should always be communicated to the patient when this pathology is detected.
There are some doubts that this happens in practice. Many patients note an increase in general tone and a significant improvement in their internal, psychological state after the duodenal intubation procedure, which, as is known, removes significant amounts of bile from the body (especially if it is stagnant bile).

Self-help for depression, chronic fatigue, VSD: five most important rules.jpg

At the same time, similar results can be achieved by doing blind probing (tubage) at home.

In the classic version, this procedure looks like this:

In the morning, on an empty stomach, drink 15-20 ml of a 33% solution of magnesia sulfate, heated to 40-50 degrees Celsius (instead of magnesia, you can use 1-2 egg yolks, warm olive oil, 10% solution of xylitol, sorbitol or a glass of beet juice.

After this, you should lie on your right side, placing a warm heating pad on the right hypochondrium for about an hour and a half. During the entire procedure, you need to take 2-3 deep breaths every 5 minutes (to relax the valve that blocks the outflow of bile). This simple and effective procedure has only three contraindications: gallstones, stagnation of bile in the liver (so-called “cholestasis” ) and an “overexcited” gallbladder (“hyperkinetic form of dyskinesia”).

In all other cases and if there are indications, tubage should be done 1-2 times a week. Favorable changes for the nervous system will not be long in coming, but you should know that this procedure alone will not be enough to fully cure the gallbladder.

Available measures to solve this problem more efficiently are given in the “Anatomy of Vitality...” It also describes the most vulnerable organs of the body, which can trigger a whole chain of negative changes in the body and nervous system. Information is provided on what signs they manifest and how they can be eliminated - including non-drug methods.

This knowledge will be extremely important both for effective self-help and for eliminating obstacles that often arise on the path to self-improvement. If necessary, this information will allow you to ask thorough questions to your doctor or psychotherapist.

Rule #2

To identify the causes of nervous disorders, conventional examination methods are not enough.
In addition, it is extremely important to know what some of the “features” of your body mean. The identification and interpretation of these “features” in mass medicine is carried out only occasionally. Diseases of internal organs often do not have clear and obvious symptoms, which is why many people do not realize that they have chronic diseases. At the same time, general medical institutions (polyclinics) leave a significant part of such diseases undetected. - Despite the fact that any of them can significantly impair the activity of brain cells and cause a variety of symptoms of nervous disorders.

For example, the heart can be weakened by disease without causing any pain or other discomfort. But in this case, the cerebral fraction of cardiac output may be reduced - that part of the blood that the heart sends to the brain, which is why the metabolism in it is inevitably disrupted.

It would seem that this weakening can be identified using a regular cardiogram, but this is hampered by one “small” problem: “An ECG taken at rest and outside of a heart attack does not detect about 70% of heart diseases” (quoted from the publication: “Diagnostic Standards and treatment" St. Petersburg, 2005).

But the overwhelming majority of cardiograms are performed “at rest and outside of a heart attack,” which is why one of the possible causes of nervous system disorders is hidden “in the shadows.” Real benefit from a cardiogram can be expected mainly when it is done after stress tests, which can be physical activity or the introduction of special drugs into the blood that deliberately complicate the work of the heart (for example, the “chime test”).

On a mass scale, however, such measures are not carried out either for the heart or for diagnosing other organs and systems.

Let us limit ourselves to one more example: “It is often not possible to identify chronic pyelonephritis and accurately determine the form of its course, especially in a clinic setting, due to the variety of clinical manifestations of the disease and the relatively frequent secretive course.” Quote. according to the publication: “Kidney Diseases”, ed. S. Trofimova, 2010)

How the kidneys and their diseases (including pyelonephritis) affect the nervous system and to what extent higher nervous activity depends on the pathology of other organs is a separate and quite extensive topic. In “The Anatomy of Vital Force...” it is covered conclusively, in an accessible and popular presentation.

Another feature of this book is that it brings together and explains many indirect or minor symptoms that can manifest disorders in various organs and systems of the body - a kind of “features” of the body. In particular, what does deterioration in general condition indicate if it constantly occurs “on an empty stomach”?

What do constantly cold feet mean? Where do, for example, the love for sweet or sour things come from? What is the cause of chilliness or, conversely, heat intolerance?

Knowledge of this kind can provide invaluable assistance, since it indicates the primary direction for both diagnosis and therapeutic effects. The correctness of the steps taken will be evidenced by obvious and beneficial changes in the psyche and nervous system.

Electropuncture diagnostics using the R. Voll method has phenomenal capabilities in identifying hidden diseases. It is worth noting, however, that this method, known to the population as “computer diagnostics,” is seriously discredited by all kinds of medical businessmen, so purchasing any drugs or dietary supplements at the place where this diagnostic is performed is not recommended.

Rule #3

You should agree to take synthetic antidepressants only in extreme cases.
The medications that should be given preference in the first place are either herbal preparations or those that simply replenish the deficiency of substances necessary for the full functioning of the brain. Medical prescriptions regarding the use of synthetic antidepressants mean, at a minimum, that there will be no search for the causes of brain dysfunction.

Antidepressants are the “heavy artillery” used by psychiatrists to treat patients with obvious and severe mental disorders. For other categories of patients, including those with borderline disorders, antidepressants are also prescribed too widely, but these prescriptions are often unfounded or premature. Typically, antidepressants are prescribed only in three cases:

  • severe forms of depression (“You don’t dig a well during a fire”);
  • proven presence of irreversible (organic) changes in the brain;
  • complete impossibility of identifying or eliminating factors that have a harmful effect on brain processes;

There are medications that, unlike antidepressants, have virtually no side effects, but at the same time act effectively, naturally and predictably.
In addition, these medications are available in pharmacies without a prescription. Here are two of them:

"Cortexin". It is a complete complex of amino acids, polypeptides and microelements that play a vital and irreplaceable role in the life of brain cells. It is of completely natural origin. It is administered intramuscularly. It has a normalizing effect in many disorders of the nervous system, including asthenia (weakness), depression, anxiety disorders, and increased sensitivity to weather changes.

In addition to the fact that the drug ensures the normal activity of nerve cells, it enhances their self-healing processes. If desired, Cortexin can be used in courses of 10 to 20 injections at intervals of 3–6 months. Contraindications include fairly rare cases of hypersensitivity to the components of this drug.

“Ginkgo Biloba” (synonyms “Bilobil”, “Tanakan”, etc.). It is an extract from the leaves of the tree of the same name. It is included in many medicines as a main ingredient. Strengthens cerebral and renal blood circulation, as well as metabolism directly in the brain.

It is effective in many cases accompanied by depression, mental and physical weakness (asthenia), headaches, tinnitus, etc. Positive changes in the nervous system and psychological recovery are observed mainly after a month of taking the drug. The effect lasts for about two months. Repeated courses are possible.

Other medications that seriously compete with antidepressants are listed in “Anatomy of Vitality...”

Rule #4

It is advisable to use physical methods of influencing the nervous system.
This alone may be enough to eliminate mild to moderate nervous disorders. In any case, these methods can bring significant benefits and significantly speed up the rehabilitation process. Some procedures or other therapeutic measures can cause changes in the body that are difficult or impossible to cause by any other means. The consequence of these changes will be increased brain activity and normalization of the tone of the nervous system.

In addition, the undeniable advantage of such activities is their accessibility and ease of implementation at home. Here is one method that shows consistent effectiveness in many cases:

The method consists of applying an ice cube to the point where the back of the head ends and the cervical vertebrae begin, on the midline of the head. Ice for these purposes is frozen in the refrigerator in any suitable molds (for example, plastic bottle caps) and applied to the indicated area for 20-25 minutes.

Daily, 1-2 times a day for a month. Repeat the course periodically. For one procedure you will need several ice cubes. The effect of its implementation is due to a reflex increase in local blood flow in the brain, which is in this area most accessible for influence, as well as a simultaneous influence on one of the very effective points used in acupuncture (feng fu point, VG-16)

Many who have experienced this method have had headaches, depression, chronic fatigue disappeared, sleep and other indicators have normalized (this does not negate what was said earlier about the need to establish the causes of nervous disorders. Otherwise, these unresolved causes may present unpleasant surprises in future)

You can find modern interpretations of this method on the Internet, but in Russian-language sources the tradition goes back to one of the greatest Russian doctors, A.S. Zalmanov, who recommended doing this procedure twice a day, both for treatment and for maintaining health.

Other methods that allow you to achieve immediate or delayed effects in terms of achieving internal harmony and “kindling the fires of life” require some introductions and simple explanations. Set forth in “Anatomy of Vital Force...”

Rule #5

Impact on the subconscious area is extremely important.
This requires knowledge of the mechanisms by which one can influence this area. Many people note the presence of undesirable psychological qualities, character traits or various complexes. With the help of the above principles it is possible to destroy the soil in which such defects grow. At the same time, they can take root in the subconscious for a long time, manifesting themselves in self-esteem, way of thinking and actions.

At the same time, attempts to get rid of the negative properties of one’s nature through persuasion, self-persuasion or self-orders will most often prove to be ineffective. — The arguments of the subconscious will always be more compelling. In general, this is the same as trying to “order” yourself to fall asleep in those cases when sleep for some reason does not come.

Huge opportunities for self-help and self-development lie in methods that can “erase and write again” those programs that are embedded in the depths of the subconscious. One such method is to stand in the coldest possible shower for 3-5 minutes, and during this entire time try to imagine yourself as calm, strong and self-confident.

Despite the simplicity of this method, its action is based on one of the fundamental principles of the nervous system, which is known as “external inhibition”. In short, its essence boils down to the fact that when the body is exposed to unusual factors or situations that may pose some kind of threat to it, all ordinary thoughts and experiences immediately disappear (example: two young people on the street are animatedly arguing about something.

Suddenly they see a dog approaching them with known signs of aggression. After this non-standard situation, the interlocutors are usually not immediately able to remember the subject of the interrupted debate).

Thus, while under a cold shower, all habitual thoughts and self-esteem are in a very muted state, completely replaced by the impressions that cold water makes.

Consciously evoked at this moment, imaginations about the strength of one’s nervous system acquire the ability to penetrate quite deeply without hindrance. For some time after completing this procedure, a feeling of self-sufficiency, confidence and calmness actually arises.

This feeling is consolidated and intensified after repeated repetitions of this technique - depending on the initial state of the nervous system and the presence of internal causes that impede its normal activity. (General warnings: cardiovascular diseases, cerebrovascular accidents, bronchopulmonary pathology)

The use of the principles on which the work of the nervous system is based forms the basis for other, more effective methods of influencing subconscious processes. In addition, a cold shower can be too stressful for many. According to medical traditions, “The medicine should not be more severe than the disease itself.” These methods are also discussed on the pages of my book “Anatomy of Vital Force. Secrets of restoring the nervous system."
