Where do fears come from - lack of money, job loss, loneliness and what to do about them

What is chrometophobia?

Many people are interested in the name of the fear of touching money: paper bills and coins.

Chrometophobia is a complex psycho-emotional disorder associated with money, which is based on an acute social problem.

This disease is often observed in individuals with different income levels who do not have financial literacy. As a result of the progression of chrometophobia, the patient’s perception of the world around him changes, and concomitant pathologies appear (excessive anxiety, inexplicable panic attacks and mood changes, uncontrollable trembling of the limbs, aggressiveness, etc.).

Constant fear of being left without money - what to do?

The fear of being left without a livelihood is one of the most powerful fears of modern man. Worrying about money is a completely normal reaction to endless financial crises. Nowadays you can easily find a wide variety of advice from experts on the proper management of personal finances. But what to do with the feeling of anxiety that floods a person, on the verge of panic - the constant fear of being left without money?

About 80 percent of clients who come to me complain about increased anxiety due to the possibility of facing a lack of money. Where does such strong fear come from? Why doesn’t it help to understand that you can always find at least a small income that provides the basic needs of food and a roof over your head? Why, with a stable job with a good salary, a person is tormented by fears of not being able to feed his family, of being in a state of complete helplessness, of never being able to earn money again, of having to eke out a miserable existence on the brink of survival?

There are many reasons for this fear. The history of most families in our country contains experiences of real hunger and severe hardships, the loss of many years of savings and the usual way of life. We can say that it is passed on from generation to generation.

Some people themselves have experienced periods of debilitating lack of money in childhood or adulthood. Now that life seems to have gotten better, any hint of a possible loss of a stable source of income, such as rumors of layoffs at work, causes a feeling of a rapidly approaching disaster, deprives sleep and peace, leads to surges in blood pressure and impaired cardiac activity.

How can you reduce this fear? The anxiety of losing everything seems to stimulate a person to take active action to improve the situation. But when it is too strong, it ceases to be a motivating force and only makes everything worse, paralyzing the will and preventing it from seeing emerging opportunities.

First of all, you need to honestly assess the situation and understand what you are faced with - a real problem that requires active action or an irrational fear, when now you need to cope not with the surrounding reality, but with your excessive anxiety. The line here is always very thin, and it is usually necessary to act in both directions simultaneously.

As when working with any anxiety disorder, you need to create, better write on a piece of paper, a hierarchy of your fears, what you fear most, being fired, looking for a new job, being left with an empty wallet. Formulate your biggest fears - what will happen in the worst case, will you be able to cope with it?

Remember that dealing with anxiety does not mean deceiving yourself “now I’ll just think positively, my finances are in order, nothing threatens me.” It's more about looking at the world more rationally. “Yes, I understand that there is a danger. This is what I will do now, and what I can do in the worst and best case scenario."

Think about what you would do if you had an unlimited source of cash? How would you live then, what would you do, what would make you happy? Look around, how can you fill your life with this now? Fortunately, many joys are available to us without a large bank account.

Of course, in one article it is impossible to describe all approaches, how and what can be done with the constant fear of being left without money. Remember the people who lost money, but in return gained invaluable experience that changed their attitude towards life, making it more meaningful and vibrant, people whom trials did not destroy, but made stronger and allowed them to get back on their feet financially. Don't let anxiety and fear control you; anxiety disorders can be successfully treated.

Causes of fear of money

The reasons why a fear of money may arise are numerous, however, the disease is based on negative events and experiences from the past that created internal tension. Fear is a protective reaction of the human body, so it is important to identify and eliminate its source in time.

Fear of touching money

The hygienic nature of the phobia is associated with the fact that a large number of strangers touch money. The victim of chrometophobia is convinced that contact with bills and coins causes infection with infectious diseases or transmission of harmful bacteria.

Fear of loss and incorrect attitudes

People with a high level of financial independence often have a fear of losing it. They may have doubts about how to manage their wealth: save and increase it or invest. Against the backdrop of these experiences, uncertainty about monetary stability appears.

Chrometophobia is also associated with a fear of large sums of money and the inability of an individual to take responsibility for material wealth.

There are many incorrect attitudes that can lead to the development of a phobia. They often appear during childhood and adolescence due to improper upbringing, personal suppression and difficult material conditions. The most common settings:

  1. Money is evil, it brings misfortune.
  2. Needs do not match opportunities. You must constantly limit yourself in spending.
  3. If you have money, there are no real friends.
  4. Making money can't be fun.
  5. All rich people are greedy, evil and bad.

Fear of losing yourself

The fear of losing yourself while making a lot of money is more advanced material. Many people never think about it, but when I describe it to you, you will probably find some manifestations in yourself.

Each of us has an image of a rich man in our heads. You know what you have to become to earn more money. And most often you don’t like this image.

Usually this is an angry, greedy, callous person who constantly works and gets no pleasure from anything other than money. Kashchei the Immortal from fairy tales, who languishes over gold in complete solitude.

Who would voluntarily want to become like this?

How it manifests itself

  • You spend money quickly, try not to let it linger in your possession, in order to remain in your usual role;
  • You are ashamed to say that you have money, especially when it becomes more;
  • You often fall for scams that promise magical passive income because you are afraid of making money yourself.

What could happen instead

You can be as rich a person as you want to be.

Remember Steve Jobs on stage presenting his phone to the world. He will earn another billion dollars for this presentation, and he is happy. He does what he likes, the way he likes, with those he loves.

This is how you should make your big money! This will become possible when you remove your fears and destroy false ideas in your subconscious.

What recommendations can you give to get rid of all these fears?

Well, firstly, this is, of course, getting rid of all negative beliefs about money. They prevent you from earning more. It is important to realize this. Secondly, it is necessary to acquire new useful knowledge, skills and abilities. Improving your qualifications and mastering a new profession never hurt anyone. The more you know, the more confident you can feel. Develop your competencies, become a great professional in your field, then you won’t be afraid of any crisis. If you are confident in yourself as a specialist, you do not stick to a specific place because you know that you can easily find another. Another option to protect yourself financially is to create a source of additional income (active or passive). This will most likely also require additional training in one area or another. Never stop there. Constantly developing is an important condition for success. Believe me, I have worked with many company owners. The most successful of them are those who are constantly improving. Regardless of the size of the business. The owners of the largest chains in the country are amazing sellers and continue to grow. So maybe this is a good example to follow?

Start to deal with your fears regarding finances. Don't stop there, even if it seems to you that you have achieved a good result. You can increase your earnings.
