There is only one truth
Desires are true and false. True desire always comes from the heart, and the fire inside you burns throughout the entire time. Such a goal is always for the benefit of a person and is usually achieved very easily.
People often call this "luck" or "luck." In fact, the Higher Powers contribute to the fulfillment of a true dream.
Ask yourself: what do I, as an individual, really need?
But false desire is often imposed by society. Our mind builds such intentions, trying to fit into the norms and rules accepted by society. These are empty goals and dreams that:
- bring satisfaction for a few hours/days, and then turn out to be useless;
- achieved with great difficulty;
- during execution, something usually doesn’t work out or the process drags on over time;
- are performed in a distorted form;
- often come true for friends, colleagues, acquaintances, but not for the person who made the wish;
- are far-fetched and simply not needed by a person at the moment;
- have the labels “it’s the way it should be” or “it’s the way it should be like everyone else.”
A false desire can be fulfilled, and a person sometimes experiences joy when it comes true. But in the end he realizes that the effort invested was not worth the goal itself.
Which desires are true?
We are all literally made up of desires, we are directly woven from them. But most of us don’t even think that not all of them belong to us, our soul, but are dictated by someone or something from the outside.
Be afraid of your wishes - they tend to come true
If you think about how we live, it turns out that basically our entire life is subordinated to the desires and needs of our material body, but not to the soul. Indeed, sleep, food, sex and protection - our body requires this. It wants to sleep, eat, reproduce and be protected.
But inside this apparatus there is also a heart in which our soul lives and in which our other desires live, which are true in their essence. And if we don’t know them, then there is a high probability of falling under desires imposed from the outside, from the outside. Under strangers and alien to our hearts.
And who imposes all this on us? You know the answer well. This is the media with its intrusive advertising. Advertising of life values, goals and things that we don’t need is the scourge of modern society.
ADVERTISING IS A WHOLE SYSTEM BASED ON PROOF THAT THE ADVERTISED PRODUCT OR SERVICE IS THE TRUE DESIRE OF A PERSON
And that having received this, he will certainly be happy. We lived without bothering ourselves, and suddenly bam - we saw an advertisement, and it turned out that all this time we had lived in vain.
TV is an ideal machine for filling us with other people's desires and imposed ideals.
They promise you that you will definitely be happy if you buy or do something. A person believes these persuasions, buys, but, alas, does not become happy.
For example, the man on TV becomes very happy after shaving with a new razor. I run, buy this super thing, quickly start shaving and... I don’t feel any happiness at all. Even approximately. Only irritation on the skin remains.
Conclusion - do not believe those who create imposed desires in you. Try to find the way to your as yet unmanifested desires of your soul.
Method 1. Burning desire VS Refusal
How to determine true desire? Everything is quite simple here. Let's say you're interested in buying a new phone. Over the course of several days, you watch a ton of videos on YouTube, read its characteristics, and compare it with other models. You can even go to an electronics store and feel how it feels in your hand.
After the work done, you need to leave this idea with a new phone alone. Or better yet, give it up altogether. If after a week, or even two, it still tingles in your soul, it means that the desire is true. When you want to take steps towards meeting your dream, then it is 100% yours.
And if you experience rather strange feelings and different thoughts come to you: “Or maybe I’ll stick with the old phone for now. Or wait until the company releases something new. And it’s still unclear about the money!” This means that this desire is not real. This is only a temporary blur.
If you have already collected the required amount for a phone or an apartment, and suddenly some of the money urgently needs to be directed to some other business or purchase, it means that at the moment, the desire is false. But that's just for now.
This means that you now do not need to buy a one-room apartment on the outskirts of Moscow for yourself. Maybe in six months you will meet a man and together with him buy three rubles in Moscow City. Situations are different.
Why do I need it?
Many people, especially those who are very tired of routine, constantly forced to fight for survival, may have the question: “Why do I need this? What's the point of dreaming if I never achieve it? And how can I imagine a hundred million dollars if I have never had them and never will?” This skeptical voice is the voice of your script. You try to maintain the current state of affairs by any means, and this is natural.
What can you answer here?
First of all, no one is stopping you from just trying. It's never too late to get back to routine, and it's even useful to get distracted. Secondly, I'm not saying that you will necessarily have a hundred million dollars and everything your heart desires. Maybe there will be, maybe not, no one knows for sure. But now we are talking about something else. The point of this work is to free yourself from thoughts that prevent you from understanding what you want, to hear your inner voice. Everyday problems and worries often obscure true needs, and this can last for a very long time. But someday you need to find time for yourself!
If even then the voice of reason is stronger than the desire to try, take it as a game. As a break from work or constant housework. Just sit back and enjoy a beautiful dream. You're probably watching a movie, aren't you? Isn’t it just to be whisked away to fantasy land in a permitted way? Well, then this time you will have your own film, where you are the cameraman, the director, and the main character (or heroine). And in this film, perhaps you will be able to find and formulate your secret dreams and intentions. And, who knows, maybe the journey to a real goal that interests you will begin with fantasy - but in reality?
Method 2. Invisible force
How to recognize a person's true desire? As soon as you compose your desire correctly and in detail, an invisible force will guide you. Events will work out in your favor.
Even if you are now in a dark, dark hole, where there is no ray of light at the end of the tunnel, it will definitely appear. These are precisely those cases when people arrive in shock that circumstances have deteriorated in their life path in the best possible way.
Obstacles, obstacles, delaying the process - all these are signs of false desires. Or those desires that a person does not need at the moment.
Why is it important?
As you can see, I am very confident that everyone needs this practice and am even trying to convince you to do it one way or another. Why?
In my opinion, there is nothing more important than understanding what you want. Think for yourself - if you don’t know your goals, then where will you end up? By moving randomly, without a specific plan, you can end up anywhere, and you won’t necessarily like this place, because it will be just as random.
Your wish list is the goals to which your path in life should lead you - in study, self-development, work and personal life. The list will almost certainly be adjusted and changed, but this is not significant. The important thing is that you decide for yourself exactly how.
Method 3. Happiness in the process
How to understand: a true desire or not? This is surprising, but with a real goal, the focus on the importance of achieving it usually decreases. It is quite difficult to explain this phenomenon.
You kind of want to get it, but you’re underestimating the degree of importance a little. You get the feeling that you have already received this desire, and it has fit quite firmly into your life.
This is not greedy desire, but the calm joy of possession.
And at this moment the person enjoys the process itself more. He knows that the desire is already in his pocket. At the moment, all he can do is enjoy the present moment. And the steps he takes towards his goal.
How do false desires appear?
As children we dream a lot. We think about what we will do when we become adults. But in the process of growing up, we feel the attitudes imposed on us by our parents and society.
Many parents who did not fulfill their childhood desires try to transfer them to their children. They send the boy to practice playing the piano. Dad takes the girl to karate classes.
At school we are told about the need to study well in order to later get a prestigious job.
Our true desires go deep into the subconscious and are sometimes forgotten. They are replaced by the goals that society offers us.
There is a substitution of concepts. True desires are replaced by false ones.
False desires are those that are imposed on us from the outside. Over time, we begin to think that everything that our parents and society offer us is our own desires.

Method 4. Energy ball
Another way to help determine your true desires. The technique is quite simple to perform:
- At the level of the chest (heart chakra), form a small energy ball using the energy of love. Mentally clasp it with your hands and imagine it in front of you.
- Place the image of the desire inside the ball. Imagine yourself in it as someone who has already achieved your cherished goal.
- After the whole picture is ready, you need to carefully return the ball to your chest (heart chakra).
- Monitor your body's reactions. If it’s hard for you to breathe, there’s a prickling, pinching, shorting, whistling, congestion, pinching or nausea somewhere, then this desire is false . If everything is in order and you feel a huge surge of strength and inner peace, your desire is true.
- You can also do the same technique, only imagine that you did not achieve this desire for some reason. And again observe your body's responses.
Where do the firewood come from?
As a rule, certain behavior patterns are instilled in us in childhood. This could be a ban on desires, fear of failure, a ban on certain professions (“artists always starve!”) or relationships (“men only try to deceive!”), simply instilled fears of life.
Now I will not dwell in detail on the mechanisms and tell why a person chooses goals that are not his own and follows someone else’s path. The purpose of this particular article is to provide a practical method.
It is necessary because it is easy to just say - “find out your true desires.” In fact, for most people it takes effort. And usually the inhibitions are so strong, and the anxiety about pressing issues is so great that it is difficult to focus on the quiet voice of one’s own self. It is drowned out by “rational” arguments and everyday fuss.
Fortunately, there are numerous ways to come to an agreement with yourself, one of which I will now describe to you.
Dialogue with a friend (friend)
Since it is often impossible to find out true desires without thoughtful dialogue with yourself, this method turns out to be especially effective. Indeed, in this case, a person does not just ask himself a question about his own calling - he hears questions not from himself, from a loved one, and therefore the answers to them can be more objective.
The method is performed as follows. A friend (or boyfriend) sits down next to you and asks: “What do you want in life?” The examiner answers himself, and then she asks: “Why do you need this?” After the next answer, the interlocutor asks again: “What is this for? What will it give?".
So it is necessary to continue further - until some insight arises, or simply up to ten questions. Practice shows that at the end of the exercise a person looks at his true desires completely differently, how to determine which is described in this article.
Dreams
One of the simplest methods. Freud called dreams the “royal” road to the human unconscious. Since a person very quickly forgets all his dreams after waking up, they must be written down. Psychologists do not recommend relying on dream books, since a person’s dreams have not a general, but a personal meaning. There is no book written about the dreams of a particular person. You should also initially discard those dreams in which daytime information is processed, those impressions that were received while awake.
Other plots can be subjected to research: “What exactly does this dream mean? What message does the unconscious want to convey to me through it? If the meaning of the dream remains unclear, you can try to put yourself in the shoes of each character from the dream and answer the question: “What do I (the security guard, the seller, the dog, the indoor flower) want to say or do?”
Satisfy, regulate or suppress desires?
Desires are not a subject of discussion in terms of good/evil or good/bad, since there are different desires in the hearts of different people. And this means that we should understand the nature of desires and correctly establish an attitude towards a specific desire. The desire to sleep more in the morning requires tension of willpower, which means suppression. But this is the correct attitude specifically towards this desire. On the other hand, it is unwise to suppress your hunger, as this leads to unnecessary worries. Exactly like eating too much food. Therefore, such desire must be regulated. Unfavorable desires should be given up on the basis of knowledge and taste for a pure life. For example, a person who is sincerely engaged in the spiritual path cannot experience an irresistible desire for sensual pleasure. Although such desires sometimes arise, he has the power to simply refuse them, knowing full well what they can lead to. As for the redirection of desires and qualities, this is applicable only to devotional service to the Supreme Lord, only Krishna is so pure and merciful that greed or pride directed in His direction can purify a person’s heart. But again, not all motives are suited to be applied on the path of devotional service. So you cannot envy the Lord and you should not direct your fear or self-interest towards Him.
Understanding the nature of desires and having a variety of practices in regulating them, one can come to a conclusion about how to relate to a specific desire and for a complete understanding it is necessary to make efforts to analyze desires and to treat them in accordance with the knowledge gained.
Find a way to yourself
To learn to hear yourself, you need to go through a fairly long path of becoming, the ability to recognize the voice of your intuition. Often for such people this process can take months or years. The path to yourself can be overcome much faster when accompanied by a competent psychotherapist.
But you can do something yourself. How to understand your true desires? First, you need to start fulfilling your “wants,” even if they seem completely ridiculous and illogical. If you feel like laughing or crying, you should do so. If you want to be alone, then you shouldn’t deny yourself this aspiration either. There is no need to ignore your desires, even if it seems difficult or goes against the expectations of others. Over time, you will be able to quickly understand which desires are true and which are imposed by society.
False desires do not meet the needs of our soul
Let's take an example: you have a mortgage for a period of 20 years. Every time you make another payment, you develop a desire to quickly close the loan. But to pay off your mortgage faster, you need to pay more than the required payment.
So, the desire to “pay off your mortgage faster” is false. In fact, a large load of credit prevents you from enjoying life and spending money on entertainment. But this is not a mortgage problem, this is a low income problem. How to find your true desires?
What desires would you have if you did not have this payment? What would you spend this money on ? Perhaps for travel or for beautiful clothes. Or maybe take educational courses for your personal growth? Answer these questions for yourself. Ask yourself what you really want. This will be your true desires.
False desires:
- They do not meet the true needs of your Soul;
- They will not bring joy after their fulfillment;
- They take you away from your true desires;
- They prevent you from focusing on achieving your dreams.
A false desire is a condition for the fulfillment of a true desire.
A written way to learn about your dreams and desires
How to understand your true desires using this method? To do this, you need to take a pen and a piece of paper. Then set the timer for 15-20 minutes. At the top you need to write a heading: “What do I really want?” Then they begin to write as quickly as possible - just like when listening to an interesting lecture, when you want to take notes on as much useful information as possible.
To do this, you need to turn off the part that is usually called the “inner critic.” If all the ideas have already been exhausted, and the time has not expired, you can repeat yourself, but you cannot stop.
The technique must be performed more than once - psychologists recommend doing it for three more days. After all four days have passed, true dreams will become much clearer. There will be an understanding of what exactly the soul wants.
Imagine yourself as an object
How to understand your true desires and goals using this unusual method? The technique can be performed in any room – at home or in the office. Looking around, you need to select any object from the environment. It could be a clock, a front door, a juicer - anything.
Then you need to imagine yourself as this object and make a short speech on its behalf. For example: “I am a porcelain cup that always performs its function. Thanks to me, a person can enjoy aromatic tea, as well as a beautiful image on my surface. I can withstand high temperatures, and the tea in me turns out very tasty. I just need to wash it a little more often. And how scary it can be when they put me on the very edge of the table - my heart just sinks into my heels...”
It is necessary to imagine yourself with this or that object for at least twenty minutes. On behalf of the chosen thing, you can boast or complain about life. After some time, especially towards the completion of this task, insights begin: the person performing the exercise begins to learn a lot of new things about himself - especially about his main purpose in this life.
