Dreams that work: how and why you need to induce lucid dreams

The experience we gain in lucid dreams (LU) is priceless. Having learned this, a person can use it as he pleases. It will depend only on him.

I don't like to criticize. More often, only those who can’t do anything themselves criticize and therefore doubt the success of others. But sometimes it is simply impossible to pass by and remain silent from the stupidity that wants to pass itself off as the truth. I would like to touch on two points for which lucid dreaming is sometimes promoted. This is learning foreign languages and having sex in lucid dreams.

Being a fan of lucid dreaming and out-of-body travel (OBT), I want to express my opinion on this matter.

Important information

So, before we talk about how to control dreams, I must say that no one will be able to immediately master this technique. You need to work on this long and hard, because the question here lies in the subconscious. At first, awareness varies from a barely noticeable understanding of the dream, but then, if everything works out, it will be possible to significantly expand the pictures visible in the dream and the boundaries. Usually a lucid dream begins with the fact that in the middle of the night a person who was in a calm, peaceful state suddenly understands - he is dreaming! This usually happens when a person immediately moves from the awakening stage to the sleep stage, but no lapses in consciousness occur. Well, what's the point? The fact is that people who control their dreams in this way see more colorful and emotional pictures.

How to learn to lucid dream

In anthropologist and writer Carlos Castaneda's book Tales of Power, he talks about studying with the Mexican Yaqui shaman Don Juan. The shaman taught him lucid dreaming and the first thing he advised him to do was to try to focus his gaze on his hands or other parts of the body during sleep.

At first glance, it seems that the hands of the sleeper, mentioned by Castaneda and in many other books about dreams, do not have much meaning, but this is not so: it’s just the body and especially the hands that appear in our dreams most often. This is an obvious truth, but it takes on special significance when the sleeper's problem is stabilizing sleep. The body is the most constant element in dreams, it provides the best external focus for the dreamer's unstable identity. If attention leaves the body prematurely. the sleeper runs the risk of returning to sleep again with less consciousness.

Fixating on body parts is not the only way to learn to lucid dream. Psychotherapist and professor at Texas State University Rio Grande Valley Gregory Sparrow notes that another element that remains relatively constant in dreams is the ground under the dreamer's feet. By simply turning their attention to the earth, the dreamer can strengthen their inner identity, and as a result clarify and stabilize the course of the dream. Sparrow gives an example of such a situation in a dream: “I am walking down the street. It is night and when I look at the sky I am amazed at the clarity of the stars. They seem so close. At this moment I realize what is happening. The dream falters for a moment. Immediately I turn my gaze to the ground and concentrate on the image solidifying and remaining in the dream. Then I realize that if I turn my attention to the pole star above my head, the dream image will stabilize even more. I do this until gradually the clarity of the stars appears before me in its entirety.”

Another method that is useful to use in combination with the first two is to think before falling asleep what you want to see in your dream. “Ideally keep a pen and paper, and maybe a flashlight, on your nightstand. No matter what time you wake up, lie quietly and think about whether there were any traces of planned sleep and try to return to sleep if you continue to sleep, says Harvard Medical School psychologist Deirdre Barrett. It's best to write down everything you remember—that's what you'll need a flashlight for.

Preparation

Well, you need to start small. How can a beginner learn to control sleep? You should start doing very simple things. For example, write down your visions. And be sure to keep a notebook with notes next to your bed so that after waking up you can instantly record what you see. Some people even do this at night if they suddenly wake up. Moreover, you need to write down both the plot and your emotions and sensations. For what? Due to this, you will be able to remember both the contents of the dream and your feelings. Some people use a voice recorder for these purposes and record everything on audio. In addition, before recording, it is recommended to concentrate on the memories, lying still.

Exercises

People interested in the question of how to control dreams should know that nothing will work without training. That's right, there are special exercises that seem strange at first glance. But they help in this matter. One of the most popular is called “reality check”. Every couple of hours a person should ask himself: “Am I dreaming?” And prove that it is not. How to do it? There are several ways. The first is to pinch your nose, close your mouth and check if you can breathe. The second, easier one is to just look at your feet or hands. If this is a dream, then they will be distorted.

What is the point of this exercise? The fact is that by doing it regularly, you will be able to develop the habit of doing it constantly. Even in a dream. It turns out that when a person, during his vision, does such an exercise, which has already become familiar, he will understand that he is not in reality, seeing that he can still breathe, and his limbs are unusually distorted.

Learning foreign languages in lucid dreams

Sometimes you laugh when you read how people try to explain the benefits of lucid dreaming. Yes, their potential is undoubtedly enormous. But guys, you need to know when to stop. Study foreign languages in lucid dreams? Are you seriously? Have you ever tried to learn a foreign language yourself? I would be interested to look at such a polyglot. Only a person who has not experienced lucid dreams could come up with such a thing.

How do you imagine that. You fell into a lucid dream, and simply turning on your intention, said to yourself: - I learned English. Woke up and you already know him? This will not happen.

Or, having again included your intention in the OS, you invited an English teacher into your dream (this option is possible) and sat down at the astral desk and began to cram the words and phrases that they tell you and write on the astral board. When you wake up, you are surprised to discover that you are already beginning to speak the language of Foggy Albion. So?

But there are no miracles in life. When a practitioner enters a lucid dream, the experience usually does not last long. And in order to increase its duration, you need to make a lot of internal effort and time to learn how to stay in this state for a long time.

When the experience lasts minutes, how can you learn anything in lucid dreams? And if later, having learned to stay in the OS for a long time, use this precious experience for such nonsense, then you need to be a complete madman, since the result will be zero.

Here are three main arguments:

1. When a practitioner wakes up after a successful experience, after waking up he must remember everything that just happened to him. Because memory in a dream is not physical. This is the memory of the subtle body. If physical memory were used in dreams, then any dreams that a person sees would be easily remembered. However, everything is exactly the opposite. When waking up in the morning, if you do not immediately (in your mind) replay the dream you had, then it can literally disappear from your head literally minutes after waking up.

The same is true when you are in a lucid dream, after waking up you must remember what you saw so that the experience is remembered as it was. Only the most vivid OS and OBEs are ingrained in memory and do not require replaying in the mind. But such experiences are not common.

2. The memory of our energy body is figurative. It is easier for us to remember visual images after waking up, rather than words. But if someone says something to you in your dream in your native language, you will be able to remember it after waking up. Another thing is unfamiliar words in a foreign language. After waking up, if you remember something, it will be a meaningless mess in the form of unfamiliar words.

3. There is no guarantee (no guarantee) that the “astral teacher” will really teach you. After all, the most important question is who will it be? Which of the real Teachers (in the world of Spirit) will undertake to deal with such nonsense with our practitioner. And learning foreign languages in the Spiritual world, where communication occurs mentally and through images, is complete stupidity.

Learning foreign languages in a normal dream will also not bring results. The method when a person listens to a sound recording in a dream so that the brain absorbs and remembers foreign words during sleep is not effective. According to many who have practiced such training, the benefits from it are minimal. A broken state, a bad head and lack of sleep, that’s all that learning a language in a dream can bring.

Popular wisdom: “You can’t catch a fish out of a pond without effort” shows very well where you really need to look if you want to achieve success in any field.

Connection with the outside world

Talking about how to control dreams and how to learn it, it is worth noting another important nuance. To perform a reality check, all you have to do is look at your watch. Then turn away and then look again. The text or time in a dream usually always changes or turns out to be different.

Some people also advise making some sudden movement. In many people's sleep, even fast actions are performed in incredibly slow motion. Whether it's running, a sharp kick or punch, or a jump. Everything is easy in life, but in a dream it’s not.

How to understand that this is a dream?

The main question of a person who wants to experience an OS will be: “How can I understand that I am in a dream?” The answer to this question is quite difficult to obtain, although it is possible.

Psychophysiologist S. Laberge offers several simple methods. For example, you can try to cover your mouth and nose; if you continue to breathe, then you are in a dream. You can also look at your hands or at yourself in the mirror - in a dream, your reflection and your hands will most likely be modified. In addition to this, in dreams you often move long distances, covering them in a short period of time or, for example, you can change the time of day or season.

Self-hypnosis

Many people who already know something about how to induce controlled sleep resort to the technique of self-hypnosis. And it is right. Every time before going to bed, you need to repeat the following phrase to yourself: “I will be aware that I am sleeping.” And this sentence must be pronounced without stopping, that is, until the person passes out. Any other phrase that will help the dreamer come to awareness and become more confident will do. This technique has its own name. This is known as mnemonic lucid dreaming. It means that a person resorts to the so-called “properties of memory” or to a mechanically memorized phrase (in this case). This constantly repeated sentence seems to turn on the awareness of night visions, thus turning everything into an automatic habit. As with the reality check mentioned earlier. By the way, some people enjoy practicing phrase repetition with this exercise. It’s simple - you not only need to constantly repeat the same sentence, but also simultaneously examine your hands. And that’s all – just before falling asleep.

Attention and concentration

Is it possible to control dreams? Definitely. But for this you need to be an attentive person. You should identify for yourself the “signs” of your visions and write them down in a notebook. These are usually recurring events, situations or settings. Having remembered this, in the next vision, seeing something familiar, you will realize that the person is not in reality.

And finally, one more method, but it is suitable for those people who already have some experience in terms of controlled dreams. Our consciousness is so unique and inimitable that we can... order a dream! But for this you need to be extremely attentive and concentrated. After a person lies down on the bed, that is, gets ready for sleep, he needs to start thinking about the plot. That is, in other words, inventing in your head the beginning of the dream, the development of events, drawing the situation, the characters... It’s worth remembering - after all, when we communicate with someone for a long time before going to bed or remember about someone, this person often appears in a dream at night! In other words, you need to start worrying. However, not everyone will succeed and not right away. There is a certain complexity here. And it lies in combining the incompatible. The dreamer must be extremely calm and peaceful. Otherwise, being excited, you won’t be able to go into a state of sleep - just remember the situations when you drink coffee at 11 o’clock, and then toss and turn until three. But at the same time, the consciousness must empathize with the plot, otherwise it will not be able to develop into a dream, remaining thoughts. In general, this technique needs to be practiced.

Lucid dreams

Lucid dreaming (lucid dream) is a state in which a person understands that he is dreaming, can control what is happening, in fact, can often do whatever he wants until he is limited by his imagination. You can have a dream either spontaneously, which is very rare, or intentionally.

“Guided dreams” were first discussed in literature in the 19th century. This concept has become more famous since the time of the famous magician Carlos Castaneda, who opened a school for managing one’s own dreams. However, this concept received a scientific character only when the American psychologist Stephen Laberge went on an internship to Mexico in the late 50s and studied this phenomenon.

Lucid dreams are practiced for various reasons, but mostly people come to this practice who want to understand their thoughts. This is often observed in people who have experienced serious problems that have affected their psyche. It is impossible to say for sure whether lucid dreams help, but they definitely have an impact on a person.

Another world

And finally, you can go directly to the question of how you can control your sleep, namely its development. In all, absolutely all visions, man is the main character. It's like a film shot from the first person. Although sometimes the dreamer sees himself from the outside, this is not important - the main thing is that he is there. So, now about controlled sleep. How to make it possible to experience it and everything that happens in it, as if in real life? Go where you want, say what you want, change the situation? It's complicated. This happens to people who have managed to master the previous technique (that is, “constructing” a plot while still awake). Why? After all, along with the plot developing into a dream, its owner, the man, flows into this state. This can be compared to moving to another world through a magical portal. Many people think that after falling asleep they lose concentration. But no. Our consciousness is designed in such a way that the state in which a person fell asleep is preserved. Therefore, the dreamer will continue to be attentive and concentrated.

"Helpers"

If a person fails to achieve at least some result even after many months of training, there is no need to rush to get upset. There are special “helpers” called light alarm clocks. It should be set to operate every hour or two. Light is the best stimulant for dream awareness. A person does not wake up completely, but due to a short-term awakening, which immediately passes into the reverse stage of rest, it is possible to realize the fact of sleep.

Advantages and disadvantages

Well, controlled and lucid dreams are very interesting and unusual. But there are both pros and cons. The first include a bright picture, a feeling of being in a film, unusual sensations, interest, emotions with feelings like in reality, and the opportunity to create in a dream the kind of world that you would like to see in real life. What about the downsides? Perhaps the main drawback is fatigue. The human body does not fully rest in a state of controlled sleep. After all, the brain works! He generates a picture, follows the plot, and participates in the development of events. Due to experiences in a dream, a person’s muscles tense in reality. Some, under the influence of what is happening in their unreal world, actually cry, they may even accidentally hit themselves, etc. The result is a broken state in the morning. For many, of course, it goes away by the middle of the day, but still experts do not recommend getting carried away with this technique. Well, in general, it’s a good practice that helps you get to know yourself better, your own capabilities and your consciousness.

Is it possible to wake up without waking up?

Lucid dreaming has long been the subject of scientific research by Lucid Dreaming. To remember yourself in a dream and, with a mental effort, without waking up, run the dream scenario along the chosen path in order to improve the necessary skills - dozens of scientists around the world are working on this. Remarkably, it was successful. In particular, the guru of lucid dreams, American psychophysiologist Stephen Laberge, believes that almost anyone can learn to control sleep. It is only important to practice a little.

To learn to be aware of oneself in a dream and correct the “dream reality”, training for just a week is enough for some, Laberge assures.

For most, lucid dreams begin during normal sleep, when a person suddenly realizes where he is. However, there are also advanced ones - people who are able to go into a controlled sleep directly from the waking state, without a temporary loss of awareness. This is aerobatics, which is achieved step by step.
