What is Revenge and Vindictiveness?

Add to favorites

Vindictiveness or Revenge is a negative quality of a person’s character and a tendency to deliberate, planned actions or acts of a destructive type. The main focus of actions is to respond with evil for evil, for the insults, troubles, death and illnesses caused, regardless of whether there is a reasonable need for this.

As you can see, the characteristics and manifestations of Revenge require a painstaking description, even in a concise formulation of this concept.

Manifestations and properties of Revenge

Vengefulness is the reverse reaction of a painful and overly inflated person with Selfishness and Pride, to satisfy the feeling of Retribution. Revenge does not know how to forgive and is intolerant of other people's behavior; it sometimes reacts to the most far-fetched irritants. As a clear form of manifestation of Pride, vindictiveness does not recognize the right of others to be different. Vengeance is smart and unusually inventive for unexpected cunning tricks and dirty tricks.

Vengefulness, very often, accompanies a person’s character trait as Obsession. One main thought, the Goal and the Object of their passion with complete Obsession drills into the brain of a vengeful person. Look how many strong words there are in this sentence. So terrible is revenge, which takes extreme forms.

Having endowed another person with the property of Evil, Vengefulness is offended when he does not behave as she would like. The exit of another from the zone of her control becomes a reason first for resentment, and then for hatred, anger and revenge.

Manifestation formula: Retribution > Resentment > Hatred > Malice > Revenge > Unforgiveness > Grudge > Intransigence

Vengeance is a constant, no time limit, desire not only to return to the offender the pain and suffering experienced, but also to cause even greater destruction. As the Vengeful Man says, debt is worth paying. Vengeance in conjunction with unforgiveness, rancor, and intransigence is based on the feeling of Retribution.

The feeling of Retribution requires satisfaction and blood!

Who are the Vengeful People?

Vindictiveness is inherent in insecure and dissatisfied people, with low self-esteem and a weak Inner Self. Through vindictiveness, they try to prove to themselves and the world their own importance and significance. Very often, the cause of vindictiveness is banal envy or jealousy. This is a particularly difficult case, because the objects of envy and jealousy are constantly changing, and the Vengeful person remains in a static position and does not develop as a person. Vindictiveness is quick to draw conclusions from situations, and does not bother itself with a deep analysis of the situation or events.

It is not always the right conclusion about whether the insult, resentment or trouble caused is really so large that the thought of revenge needs to be made all-consuming and main. Vindictiveness is short-sighted and does not even look into the future, what the result of revenge will be.

End of Revenge

A person who has been severely harmed is able to return to a normal state of mind either from unconditional forgiveness or from merciless retribution and satisfaction.

Vengeance loses its power where a person is able to understand and forgive, think about the future, begin to care, respect and love others, but that’s a different story. This is the story of a man with the question of the man himself - who I am. As a person who lacks a Strong Core and lacks education, vindictiveness without hesitation chooses a short-lasting emotion of satisfaction.

This is the essence of her nature, instinct and emotion. Revenge is often accompanied by character traits such as Sullenness, Anger and Suspiciousness. A person with such a combination of character qualities will cross any forbidden standards; he is ready to take revenge for any insult, real or imaginary. Vindictiveness justifies itself: “When you are deprived of everything you love, there is only one thing left to do - revenge.”

Very often, Vengefulness has no statute of limitations and turns into a lifelong disease. A person who has fallen under her influence, like one possessed, thinks only of revenge.

Recommendations

If you want to rejoice for a moment, take revenge; if you want to rejoice all your life, forgive

Consequences of Vengefulness

First, a feeling of Indignation starts, similar to an internal explosion caused by resentment, envy or jealousy. Pride, which includes selfishness and vindictiveness, is affected. When a person shows vindictiveness, changes occur in his body in the form of a hormonal surge of Adrenaline.

Selfishness completely blocks sending painful signals from the Mind and consciousness. The devilish fire of Vengeance flares up inside a person. Plans for revenge are brewing. Man is no longer his own master, being completely dependent on his manifested vengefulness of the Evil and the Beast within.

A vengeful person devours himself, stops seeing the sun in the sky, becomes an embittered negativist, loses the opportunity for personal growth, loses the meaning of life and health.

At the same time, Vengeance is weak in effectiveness, constantly being in a mode of exhaustion and consumption of human strength. A stronger step as a similar or stronger response is Forgiveness. To forgive means to be stronger. To forgive means to submit the action to the Higher Powers for judgment.

Indifference is not an option

Only the feeling and power of Indifference can completely cope with the feeling of Revenge, or prevent it from manifesting itself; it will either forgive or simply ignore the offender, however, if these are not extreme forms of Indifference.

Work examples

People do good and bad things in their lives. Evil caused to a person by someone is sometimes stored in the memory for a long time. This causes the desire to take revenge.

Essay option for the Unified State Exam

Revenge is the intentional infliction of harm on another for an insult, insult, or physical impact. This phenomenon is retribution for pain and suffering . A person usually wants to pay with the same coin, so that the offender will be in the shoes of the one he offended.

Ordinary people take revenge for the sake of justice. They often regret what they did. Revenge can develop into a very serious and dangerous conflict between people, and sometimes into enmity.

I would like to give an example from A. S. Pushkin’s novel “Eugene Onegin”. In this work, the reason for Onegin's retaliation against Lensky was envy. The main character wanted the same happiness as the poet, this irritated him. Evgeniy was unable to build his own life, and the joy of others hurt the character. He wanted to prove the frivolity of Olga Larina (Lensky’s beloved), so he invited her to a dance, provoking Vladimir to a duel.

Onegin understood that this could have been avoided, since he was older and more experienced than his opponent. But he didn't do it. The shot killed Lensky. Because of his weakness and revenge, Eugene went to kill a man. Did he have the right to do this? Of course not. Human life is priceless.

I would also like to give an example from A. I. Solzhenitsyn’s story “Matrenin’s Dvor.” Retribution is a key theme in this work. The motif runs through the entire story. The main character Thaddeus took revenge all his life not only on his beloved because she married his brother, but also on everyone around him, including his family. His actions led to the girl's death. The main character was unable to overcome the trials of life and cope with misfortunes. He did not simply want to take revenge on one person or a specific enemy; the character took revenge on fate and life in general. This is the effect of retribution.

Thus, I want to conclude that retribution shows the weaknesses of the individual, since she is unable to withstand the insult with dignity, and morally becomes on a par with the offender, sinking to his level. Don't be offended or angry at people. You need to take events as life lessons. Everything in the world is done for something. You shouldn’t devote yourself to negativity or get angry at people. Every person should bring good to our world. I think this topic is relevant at all times. People must learn forgiveness and humility.

Revenge, vendetta... Blood feud formed the basis of “talion law” - an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth, as the Holy Scriptures say. “Belief in cause and effect is rooted in the strongest of instincts - the instinct of revenge,” believed the writer and philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche. One of the greatest novels of world literature, “The Count of Monte Cristo” by Alexandre Dumas, is dedicated to this difficult topic. Since ancient times, moralists have recognized revenge as a base feeling. However, an Italian proverb says: “Revenge is a dish best served cold.” Recent research by psychologists confirms this idea.

There are many different reasons for everyday revenge: ugly behavior of colleagues, petty nagging of the boss, deception on the part of the best friend or boyfriend. There are a thousand and one reasons to settle scores! No, no, and a thought flashes through my head: how sweet “my revenge” will be! At this moment, a moral person will wince in shame, driving away the unworthy, in his opinion, desire to get even. But in vain! In some cases, revenge is extremely useful.

“Revenge is a phenomenon that we encounter every day at every turn,” says Professor Mario Gollwitzer from the University of Marburg. Having studied this phenomenon for decades, the psychologist concluded that there are several types of revenge: “Some people only fantasize about how to take revenge. Others actually take revenge. There is a completely unacceptable kind of revenge that brings only misfortune. But there is also revenge that can lead to positive results.” True, vengeful feelings will not benefit anyone if all your thoughts are occupied only with how to settle scores with the offender, says a scientist from Germany, and he is not alone.

The findings of a German colleague are confirmed, for example, by a group of American scientists led by Arlene Stilwell from the State University of New York. Researchers on both sides of the Atlantic have found, among other things, that people who do not commit retribution are stifled by rage, unlike those who do.

Revenge, revenge, retribution... We all know perfectly well the meaning of these words, since they are as ancient as humanity itself. Today, the word “revenge” has become quite popular. We constantly come across this word in books, in films, in the news and even in everyday conversations, and if in the past people took revenge for the death or honor of a loved one, today people can take revenge even because of a rude word or a sideways glance. However, is this normal? Why have people become so aggressive? And what actually pushes them to take revenge?

It seems to me that the main problem is that people have become weaker in spirit. We forget who we really are, we lose ourselves trying to meet society's standards, we love and accept ourselves as much as we meet society's expectations. Paradoxically, we become slaves of a “free” society. Dissolving into accepted norms, we forget about our own concepts of good and evil and react to everything as is customary in our society.

We often behave like robots who have no feelings or thoughts of their own, who only react according to programs set by others. How does this relate to revenge? Directly! We take revenge because it is customary; because we even perceive revenge through the prism of other people's ideas. I'm not saying this is the only reason, but it is the main one. Some will say that this is not so; that the cause of revenge is the pain and suffering of a person. Let's clarify: pain or the desire to get rid of pain? Who said that revenge will relieve pain? Where does a person get these thoughts? Aren't they imposed by society? And what exactly is meant by the words “pain” and “suffering”? Pain and suffering can be a reason for revenge when something serious happens, such as the death of a loved one. In such cases, it would be appropriate to say that pain and suffering pushed a person to take revenge. But, not in cases where a person takes revenge because of unrequited love, jealousy or simply because someone is more fortunate than him. In such cases, a person is driven to revenge by envy, selfishness or feelings of worthlessness. All these feelings arise due to the fact that a person constantly compares himself with others, instead of understanding himself and becoming the person he wants.

Whatever the reasons, no matter how strong the thirst for revenge or pain, it is always necessary to realize that revenge will never ease the pain, but will only intensify it. We seek peace where it does not exist. Sometimes it seems to us that the pain of the offender will calm us down, but in the end, we understand that we were not punishing the offender, but ourselves, because everything we do out of revenge kills a part of our soul, kills the God inside us. However, we understand this only when we dissolve in the darkness of our own revenge. It was not for nothing that Martin Luther King said, “Darkness cannot drive away darkness—only light can do that.” Hatred will not drive away hatred—only love can do that.” So let's be a ray of light in the darkness, learn to understand and forgive, because we are all not without sin, and it is unfair to punish others just because they sin differently than we do.

Why does revenge destroy the soul?

(419 words) Why does revenge destroy the soul? The answer to this question is not easy to find. I think that a person obsessed with the idea of \u200b\u200brevenge on the offender risks losing himself. His whole life will pass by: he will only think about which plan of revenge will be the best, and constantly seek a meeting with the one who insulted him. This means that his resentment will not go away, but will burn him from the inside all this time until his soul turns to ashes. Arguments supporting my point of view can be found in classical works.

The hero of Leo Nikolaevich Tolstoy's novel "War and Peace", Andrei Bolkonsky lost his beloved: Natasha Rostova turned out to be too frivolous and chose Anatoly Kuragin. The deceived groom wanted to get even with the offender. Revenge eclipsed the whole light in his eyes: he moved away from his family and stopped finding pleasure in communicating with his son and sister. During the war, he tried to find out where Kuragin was in order to kill him. Nothing else seemed important to Andrei Bolkonsky; he thought about the insult even under bullets. Pain and disappointment made him a withdrawn and desperate man who does not value himself and, as we learn later, will find his death in this battle. Of course, he still met Kuragin in the hospital: the handsome and dandy had part of his leg amputated, and he cried in pain. The prince no longer wanted to take revenge on his rival, because he had already received what he deserved. However, Andrei will never be the same; his soul will never get rid of the burns inflicted by revenge. Therefore, the author allows the hero to die: for him there is no longer happiness in it.

The heroine of Maxim Gorky's work "At the Depths", Vasilisa takes revenge on Vaska for falling in love with her younger sister. The heroine constantly beats Natasha, taking out her anger on her, and treats all the other guests aggressively and mercilessly. Revenge gradually poisons her more and more, and now, having parted with Vaska Ash, the woman invites him to kill her husband. The soul of this heroine is destroyed before our eyes: from domestic violence she moves on to thoughts of murder. The thief refuses, but one day, getting into a fight, he hits Vasilisa’s husband, Mikhail Kostylev, too hard. He's dying. The widow immediately declares: “Vaska killed! Darlings - I saw it! Revenge destroys the heroine’s soul; she no longer thinks about the feelings and even the lives of loved ones. Such an attitude towards the world leads a woman straight to prison, and the author puts her there for a reason. Gorky shows that a person whose soul is burned with revenge is incapable of a normal life.

Thus, a person who is obsessed with the idea of revenge loses himself and the ability to be happy, so his soul is destroyed. No bright thoughts come to his mind, he cannot set high goals, his whole life becomes only an instrument of revenge. This is a truly terrible phenomenon, which becomes the most tragic consequence of vindictiveness.

Second argument

The theme of revenge also appears in M. Yu. Lermontov’s novel “A Hero of Our Time.” Grushnitsky could not come to terms with the fact that Princess Mary did not pay attention to him, but devoted herself to Pechorin alone. Grushnitsky decided to take revenge on his enemy, accusing Pechorin of leaving the princess’s house at night. A duel is planned between the heroes, where Grushnitsky does not stop his evil intentions: together with the dragoon captain, Grushnitsky decides not to load Pechorin’s pistol during the duel. However, the main character found out about this vile act and killed Grushnitsky in a duel. M.Yu. Lermontov shows that the unjustified revenge of Grushnitsky, who had no real reasons to challenge Pechorin to a duel, became his own executioner.
