Despotism
I want to imagine in what new forms despotism will develop in our world:
I see countless crowds of equal and similar people who spend their lives in a tireless search for small and vulgar joys that fill their souls. Each of them, taken individually, is indifferent to the fate of all the others; his children and closest friends constitute for him the entire human race. As for other fellow citizens, he is close to them, but does not see them; he touches them, but does not feel them; he exists only by himself and only for himself. And if he still has a family, then we can at least say that he has no fatherland.
Above all these crowds rises a gigantic protective power, providing everyone with pleasures and monitoring the fate of everyone in the crowd. This power is absolute, meticulous, fair, prudent and affectionate. It could be compared to parental influence if its task, like parental influence, was to prepare a person for adult life. Meanwhile, this power, on the contrary, strives to preserve people in their infant state. She would like citizens to enjoy themselves and not think about anything else. She willingly works for the common good, but at the same time wants to be the sole authority and arbiter. She takes care of the safety of the citizens, provides for and provides for their needs, facilitates their enjoyment, takes charge of their main affairs, manages their industry, regulates the rights of inheritance and deals with the division of their inheritance. Why shouldn’t she completely deprive them of the restless need to think and live in this world?
It is in this way that this power makes recourse to freedom of choice less and less useful and rarer; it constantly narrows the sphere of action of the human will, gradually depriving each individual citizen of the opportunity to use all his abilities. Equality has fully prepared people for this state of affairs: it has taught them to put up with it, and sometimes even perceive it as some kind of good.
After all the citizens have passed through the strong embrace of the ruler in turn and he has molded them into what he needs, he extends his mighty hands to society as a whole. He covers it with a network of small, florid, uniform laws that prevent the most original minds and strong souls from rising above the crowd. He does not crush the will of people, but softens it, bends and directs it; he rarely encourages action, but constantly resists anyone acting on his own initiative. It does not destroy anything, but prevents the birth of something new. He does not tyrannize, but interferes, suppresses, irritates, extinguishes, stupefies and ultimately turns the entire people into a herd of timid and hardworking animals, whose shepherd is the government.
I have always been confident that this form of slavery, quiet, measured and peaceful, the picture of which I have just depicted, could be combined, although it is difficult to imagine, with some external attributes of freedom and that it could well be established even in the shadow of popular power .
Our contemporaries are constantly haunted by two conflicting feelings. They feel the need to be led, and at the same time the desire to remain free. Unable to overcome either of these conflicting instincts, citizens try to satisfy both of them at once. They would like to have a single, protective and omnipotent power, but chosen by themselves. They would like to combine centralization with the power of the people, this would somehow pacify them. Being under guardianship, they reassure themselves that they chose their guardians themselves. Responsibilities of a Despot as Head of the Priestly Hierarchy
He had full authority to perform all religious ceremonies related to birth and the fertility cycle. In some cases, the ruler could even abolish the veneration of the old gods and establish a completely new cult (as happened in Egypt).
But what the reigning monarch should never have done was take part in rituals associated with death. This was partly due to the fact that divine power could only bring good, only win, but not sow death and grief. In addition, sometimes rulers introduced their own cult. This created the impression of inviolability and sacredness of the ruler’s body. Consequently, the attempt could be equated to sacrilege, an act against God (or gods) and was punished in the most severe manner. For example, an unlucky murderer could be executed, expelled, and the like. But not everything was so smooth.
Despotic political regime
A despotic regime (Greek despoteia - unlimited power) is characteristic of an absolute monarchy. In despotism, power is exercised exclusively by one person. But since in fact a despot cannot govern alone, he is forced to entrust some managerial affairs to another person who enjoys special trust in him (in Russia these were Malyuta Skuratov, Menshikov, Arakcheev). In the East, this person was called a vizier. The despot certainly left punitive and tax functions behind him.
The will of the despot is arbitrary and sometimes manifests itself not only as autocracy, but also as tyranny. The main thing in a despotic state is obedience, fulfillment of the will of the ruler. But there is a force capable of resisting the will of a despot, this is religion, it is also obligatory for the sovereign.
Despotism is characterized by the brutal suppression of any independence, discontent, indignation and even disagreement of the ruled. The sanctions applied in this case are shocking in their severity, and they, as a rule, do not correspond to the crime, but are determined arbitrarily. The main sanction most often used is the death penalty. At the same time, the authorities strive for its visibility in order to sow fear in the people and ensure their obedience.
A despotic regime is characterized by the complete lack of rights of its subjects, the absence of even basic rights and freedoms. We can only talk about satisfying physiological needs, and even then not to the fullest extent.
How does a despot act?
Despots usually act very subtly. The mechanism of influence on a person is something like this: at first, the despot will be a harmless little buffoon, ready to do anything. He will give a sea of attention and compliments. Over time, a person gets used to admiration for himself, and then the despot begins to act, namely, to criticize. After the first criticism, a person does everything possible to improve. But then the criticism becomes much greater, and the victim’s desire to correct the situation increases in proportion to it. As a result, an idea is discovered with which you can easily control the consciousness of another person. Also, it is important to note that the despot will appropriate all achievements for himself, and blame failures on his partner, and it is useless to appeal to an adequate perception of reality.
Tyrannical regime
A tyrannical regime (Greek tyrannos - tormentor) is established, as a rule, in territory that has undergone military conquest. It is based on individual rule, but is characterized by the presence of the institution of a governor, and not the institution of a trusted person (vizier). The power of a tyrant is cruel. In an effort to suppress resistance, he executes not only for expressed disobedience, but also for discovered intent in this regard, that is, preventively, in order to sow fear among the population.
Taking possession of the territory and population of another country is associated, as a rule, with physical and moral violence not only against people, but also against the customs of the people. When new rulers introduce orders that are contrary to the way of life and thoughts of people, especially if they impose other religious norms, the people experience tyrannical power very hard (Ottoman Empire). Laws do not work because tyrannical authorities, as a rule, do not have time to create them.
Tyrannical rule is perceived by the people as oppression, and the tyrant as an oppressor. Such a regime also existed in the early stages of human development (Ancient World, Early Middle Ages). Compared to despotism, tyranny seems to be a slightly less harsh regime. The “mitigating circumstance” here is the fact of oppression of not one’s own people, but someone else’s.
Totalitarian regime
A totalitarian regime (late Latin totalis – complete, whole, all-encompassing) can otherwise be called an all-encompassing power. The economic basis of totalitarianism is large property: feudal, monopolistic, state. A totalitarian state is characterized by the presence of one official ideology. The set of ideas about social life is set by the ruling elite. Among such ideas, the main “historical” idea stands out: religious (in Iraq, Iran), communist (in the USSR: the current generation will live under communism), economic (in China: to catch up and overtake the West through a great leap), patriotic or sovereign, etc. Moreover, the idea is formulated so popularly and simply that all layers of society, even the most uneducated, can understand it and accept it for leadership. The state's monopoly on the media contributes to the sincere support of the government by the population. There is one ruling party that declares itself the leading force in society. Since this party gives “the most correct guidelines,” the reins of government are given into its hands: the party and state apparatuses are merging.
Totalitarianism is characterized by extreme centrism. The center of a totalitarian system is the leader. His position is akin to divine. He is declared to be the wisest, infallible, fair, tirelessly thinking about the good of the people. Any critical attitude towards him is brutally persecuted. Against this background, the power of executive bodies is strengthening. Among government bodies, the “power fist” stands out (police, security agencies, prosecutor’s office, etc.). Punitive agencies are constantly growing, since they are the ones who have to use violence that is in the nature of terror - physical and mental. Control is established over all spheres of social life: political, economic, personal, etc., and therefore life in such a state becomes like behind a glass partition. The individual is limited in rights and freedoms, although formally they can be proclaimed.
One of the main characteristics of totalitarianism is militarization. The idea of military danger, of a “besieged fortress” is necessary to unite society along the lines of a military camp. The totalitarian regime is aggressive in its essence and is not averse to profiting at the expense of other countries and peoples (Iraq). Aggression helps to achieve several goals at once: to distract the people from thoughts about their plight, to enrich themselves, to satisfy the vanity of the leader.
Western Europe experienced a totalitarian regime (religious totalitarianism) in the Middle Ages. Currently, it exists in many Asian countries, and in the recent past - in the USSR and Eastern European countries.
Distinctive features and signs of a tyrant husband
The word "tyrant" has a clear and understandable meaning: oppressor and tormentor. However, the manifestations of his tyranny vary from emotional to physical pain. These tendencies of a man are not just his character, but a serious psychological illness. It is difficult to identify a despot before marriage, but it is possible if you sensibly assess the situation without embellishing reality.
You can recognize a tyrant by the following signs:
Raising a hand to a woman
This is the main characteristic of a despot, so if a similar situation arises in your case, do not tolerate such an attitude. If a man allowed himself to do this once, the situation will certainly repeat itself again. In a marriage, the tyrant will feel complete power, which means physical violence and even beating cannot be avoided. It is in your hands to change everything if you prevent the development of further relationships in time.
Constant humiliation
Psychological pressure is one of the tyrant’s tricks. Humiliation manifests itself in caustic statements, offensive expressions in the presence of others, and low self-esteem of the wife and children. The despot has one goal - to strengthen and strengthen power in the family and increase his self-esteem.
Absolute power and the ban on the existence of the wife's opinion
This tendency manifests itself in decision making. In happy families, the husband is the head of the family, but he exercises his leadership in the right way: with love and care. At the same time, he takes into account the opinions and feelings of his wife and children. If there is a tyrant in the family, then the attitude towards dominance is exactly the opposite. And it is impossible to convince him otherwise!
Constant control
Although it is normal to be aware of each other's life events, tight control of every situation is characteristic of a tyrant. For this man, every step of a woman is important; he is wildly jealous of anyone, even a man passing by.
Veiled Tyranny
This behavior is characterized by the phrase: “It will be better for you, but I love you and care about you.” Of course, this statement is pleasant for a woman, but what matters is the situation in which you find yourself and the man’s tone. This expression does not always indicate sincere concern. Therefore, you should be careful in such situations.
Children's complexes
Tyranny is directly related to a person’s upbringing. Therefore, before deciding to get married, it is recommended that you get to know his parents to find out what kind of atmosphere reigns in their home. A man's attitude towards his father or mother indicates how he will behave with his future wife.
Do you notice similar traits in your boyfriend? After a serious quarrel, it seems to a woman that her chosen one fully corresponds to this characteristic. However, this is a misconception, since a person’s assessment should be given in a sound mind and with complete seriousness, and after a conflict, even minor mistakes seem global and insoluble.
How to live with a despot?
Having rushed into marriage, women face serious problems when it turns out that their husband is a despot. It is especially difficult for those who have children, and their upbringing requires male support. A woman’s behavior varies, but it plays a key role in the development of future relationships. With the help of your good habits you will win the love of your husband, which will manifest itself in a complete change in his personality. You shouldn’t tolerate violence and beating, and as for emotional trauma, in exceptional situations some women can withstand it and even fight it.
Correct behavior with a despot husband:
Contact a psychologist or psychiatrist. This is the first thing required of a female victim of a tyrant. Remember that some men act this way only because of a disease, so he needs your help! Don't be humiliated! Although the tyrant lowers the self-esteem of another person, do not go wrong, take care of yourself, strive to achieve your goals. Don't forget about your children and avoid quarrels in front of them. It is better to remain silent right away and then talk than to force the child to observe the conflict that has arisen. Keep in touch. Express what is bothering you, but do it in a soft and meek manner.
Physical violence is prohibited by law, so in this case you have the right to contact law enforcement agencies. If you live with a tyrant, realize yourself and find yourself a hobby that would distract you from pressing problems. Separate residence. If a despot beats you up and you can no longer tolerate such treatment, then the only way is to leave.
Even with physical violence, some women do not decide to live separately from their husbands. Reasons include fear, shame and hope that things will change. For others, it seems impossible to provide for themselves if a man has been doing this throughout their life together. When making a decision, you should take into account the individual situation in your family.
To avoid becoming a victim of your future husband, be especially careful when choosing your chosen one. Even if you try to hide your true nature, some shortcomings will come to light from time to time. You shouldn’t turn a blind eye to this, much less endure physical injuries. Think about future children, and the possible manifestation of similar shortcomings in marriage. Thoughts that everything will change after the wedding are wrong!
Traits of despotism
In a society with a broken perception of violence and personal boundaries, despotism can be perceived as a manifestation of character, and a person will even be respected for this. The first and most characteristic sign of despotism is the use of violence as the norm of behavior and the only possible way to regulate relations. Despots do not know how to ask, negotiate or find compromises. If the partner’s behavior does not correspond to the desires of the despot, various types of violence can be used. Although at first the despot, demonstrating his dissatisfaction, may give another the opportunity to correct his mistake, but if this does not happen immediately, he will immediately face punishment. It is also worth noting that despots often put forward very strange demands, in which discontent may be caused by what others consider to be the norm.
Male tyrant: the essence and psychology of despotism
If you want to learn more about the psychology of a despot man, then this article is for you. From it you will learn how a tyrant gains trust and begins to control the people around him, causing them pain and suffering.
Greetings,
dear readers and guests of my blog!
Have you ever heard of Pareto's law: 20/80?
It says that only 20% of efforts in any business produce the main result, and the remaining 80% is something of little value and insignificance.
So, I thought: it is quite possible that 80% of our life is empty, vanity, routine, and only 20% is worth something and brings meaning.
And some don’t even have these 20.
Moreover, if such a person is surrounded by people who are actively stealing his life interest.
However, sometimes just one thief is enough.
Aimed, for example, at realizing the instinct of power, constantly controlling everything and capable of letting go of hands on occasion.
This problem is especially relevant for the female half of humanity.
As you already understand, this article is about who a tyrant man is.
It is a continuation of the previous publication:
"Do not shout at me!" or aggression in everyday life"
because they are united by a key problem - aggression in the family.
In this article I will describe the psychology of a tyrant, and in one of the following publications I will definitely talk about the main signs by which you can identify a domestic despot (you can read about this),
I will also present ways of liberation from his power (more on that in this article).
It is important to note that the topic of family tyranny is very closely related to such problems as: family betrayal, negative life scenarios and victim behavior patterns.
You can find articles about this in the section:
Fate, human victims and life scenarios
By the way, let’s agree that the words “tyrant” and “despot” will be synonyms for us, otherwise we will get confused in the semantic nuances
